Who'll be better in the long run? Griffin or Jefferson?

Jefferson looks like he'll be a solid pro. He's got tremendous altheticism, good moves around the basket, and a strong frame. All he needs is a more consistent outside shot and he'll be a very good 2 in the NBA.

Griffin's for tremendous upside. Will he have a break out season this year? If not, would that be a disappointment to the fans?

All I know is that NJ Nets may never regret making that trade.

IMHO, it is not a matter of who will be better but who brings more to the table.

RJ is a quality player who will get better because of his work ethic and drive to be better. That is a quality that his college coach loved.

EG is a raw talent who has a much higher ceiling. Of course he may not be considered as good as RJ right now but he will be light years ahead in the future...the very near future.( personally I think EG is better now but I like the kid;) ).

The thing that stands out is that EG has the capability of taking over a game from both ends of the court. He brings a shot blocking presence who can rebound well and still step out and hit the long jumper. He can lock down the middle at both ends of the court.

RJ is a fundamentally sound player who is a great open court player but I do not believe that he can "take over a game".

EG is better now and forever!!!

Jefferson also gets to play with Jason Kidd.

Remember how bad Van Horn looked with Marbury last year? With Kidd, Van Horn looked like a new player. Jason Kidd elevates the play of everyone around him.

Having said that, I can't believe this question is getting asked here. Griffin, not Ming, is the youngster on this team with the most potential. The people in New Jersey will be crying in 5 years, because Griffin is going to be a BEAST.

If Steve Francis can emulate Jason Kidd, then we will have a championship here again.

I think the thing Jefferson has over Griffin is that he is safe. You know he'll be a good citizen and a solid player. With Griffin, there was a significant question about whether he'd be cancerous and if he'd actually be able to translate his skills to the NBA game. I think the Rockets won the gamble because Griffin is looking now like he is a good citizen, coachable and able to use his skills in this league.

I don't think New Jersey will much regret the trade because they did win the EC Championship. Maybe they would have done the same with Griffin, though Griffin would probably be a less useful rookie. The short-term payoff of taking Jefferson is pretty good.

Right now, I'd give the edge to RJ. He's a 3, and he fills a need. The Rockets are in a bit of bind with 3 capable starters at the 4 spot. The Rockets didn't need 3 rookie contracts last year either....so basically, it was as even as a trade as anyone could come up with...for now.

Hopefully EG blows up, we ship out one of our PFs, and get some depth on the bench.

RJ will start next year at the 2or the 3 depending on who get
traded( KVH or KK or just move to the bench). I think
he will be a allstar in the east one day. EG has potential
to be upperechleon (sp) player he will reach his potential
in 3-4 years he will be great. This is one of the rare trade that
    benefit both teams greatly.

I think they will both be all star players and would be glad to have either on my team.

We ship out one of our verstale PFs (where all three can backup multiple positions) to "get some depth." That's mighty contradictory sounding to me.

How about this. We hope Griffin "blows up" just when Rice "blows out" at which time we realize we need 3 versatile PFs because we only have 1 small forward after Rice leaves worthy of 9-man rotation minutes; we realize we need 3 PFs and Nachbar to man two positions and spell the 5 as well.

Now that sounds like depth to me. Where do we need depth the most after Rice blows out?

I'd have to agree with DaDakota. I really like Jefferson's game and think they both will be great players. I'm glad we have Griffin but would love to have them both. We would have a soild 3 and 4 for years.

Of course, Jefferson looks extra-studly on court when he has Kidd passing him the ball. Not a real knock on Francis (I come here to praise Francis not to bury him) but Kidd is the best PG in the league; he made that team good. Stevie? Take your medicine, watch your diet, dude.

Given a couple years, I would say Eddie will be the better player overall, but Jefferson's no slouch, and neither team should be complaining.

Jefferson is a 2/3 that is athletic, a reasonably good offensive player and a very good defender. Griffin is a 3-4-5 that is a reasonably good offensive player and a pretty good defesnive player (less so man-to-man but better as a shot blocker).

Sounds pretty even, no? Except... Griffin is 6-10 and growing. He is developing a low-post game to go along with his outside game which will make him an impact player on offense. And he is gaining size and stregnth which should improve his man-to-man defense, at which time he becomes and impact defensive player.

Every year there are SG/SFs in the draft. Heck, this year HOU picked up one at 15 that I think will be a better offensive player than Jefferson (though nowhere near as good a defender).

Its possible that Jefferson improves his offense and becomes a starter and perhaps even an all star. But the odds of Griffin becoming a starter AND an impact player is a lot better. *Thats* why HOU made that trade...

It's like putting together a movie cast. We needed a best actor. They needed a best supporting actor. A lead actor (if he pans out) is worth more than a supporting actor, so we threw in two more picks to even things out. We got a good deal because our lead actor is panning out. They got a good deal because their supporting actor is panning out.

A best supporting actor is nothing to sneeze at. A decade ago, we found one in Robert Horry. That was the right addition, because we already had one of the greatest lead actors of all time. This time, we needed a lead actor in the frontcourt, and we got him. No regrets.

    So, Will,

If Rudy was a Movie Director, who would he be?

I hope it is Francis Ford Coppola, because he has/or is directing 7 "lead actors" now in our 3 part title series. (Dream, Drexler, Barkley, Francis, Mobley, Griffin, Ming)

    and don't anyone mention #33
