I think Shaq's gonna win although Dwight Howard and Amare are the best excluding TD. If Dwight got the same number of shot attempts as Yao had, he would be the leading scorer of NBA. I don't know if we can count on Yao's mid-range shots in the playoffs.

Yao will, once he regains his touch like pre-injury.

No, **** that. If Yao doesn't win it this year, I'm going on a murderous spree. The reason he didn't win it last year was because Houston had such a bad record. Now this year the Heat have a bad record and so do the Magic. Meanwhile the Rockets are like the 6th best team in the league and Yao is the best center statistically.

No reason he shouldn't win it this year.

Shaq is really playing in his playoff form recently (after Wade was out). But I guess, and I hate to admit that, Amare will win it as he has been very consistent the whole season and has not been injured at all. Oh, do they count him as a Center?

Let's not be homers. It should go to Amare Staudamire.

Shaq is the better center right now at this moment, untill Yao regain his pre-injury form. But I'm not sure if that'll happen before regular season ends. On the topic, Yao missed too many games to be in the first team. Gotta agree with Durvasa, it should go to Amare.

I fear the voters will shaft Yao once again, because of all the missed games. All-NBA first team center is really up in the air, although I don't expect Shaq to win it either. He's still very efficient, but the per-game numbers (the only thing most voters care about) aren't there because of his low mpg, and he has missed a ton of games himself.

Prediction: The voters will give it to one of the hyped-up, popular young guys like Amare or Dwight Howard (not to take anything away from them, they're excellent players, but it really seems like Yao's game is scrutinized a lot more).

Worst case scenario: One of those guys gets First Team, the other Second Team. Yao REALLY gets shafted and is pushed all the way down to Third Team.

Shaq should get it if he carries the team during Dwyane's absence

Yao won't make it this year, he missed too many games.

Darn it, if Yao and TMac can have a healthy season (missing less than 10 games each) all together, we are going to win everything - both MVP's, the ring, scoring champ, NBA first team, what else?

Let me just say that I do think Yao's missed games are a very valid argument against him getting the award. My previous post was made from the perspective of a Yao fan, and out of frustration that he still hasn't made first team yet (IMO he was definately screwed last year, Ben Wallace give me a break). Using games played as a factor Yao probably won't be "shafted" if he doesn't get it, but I'm correct in predicting the way the voters will act.

for all those who say shaq because of yao's injuries i still think yao has played more games this season than shaq has and has put up better numbers.

the person who it'll probably go to is amare who has had respectable numbers playing most if not all of the season out of position at the center spot.

i wouldnt mind if it was amare who got it but if yao doesnt get at least 2nd team its a travesty

If anyone not named Yao Ming, Dwight Howard, and Tim Duncan (if they wanna go with him being a Center) get 1st team center... this league is more ridiculous that I could even imagine. Shaq? Are you kidding me? He's missed more time than Yao and his production before and after the injury can't hold a candle to Yao Ming's play. I think Yao will finish this season strong, hopefully that'll be enough to sway it in his favor.

However, Dwight Howard is rather deserving as well. If Yao doesn't get it I'd like to see it go to Howard (who is sure to be Yao's archnemesis at the Center spot for the next decade). I can't get over Duncan not being a real center and really being a PF, but I dunno... he's one of the few real dominant big men in this league; no matter if he's a Center or PF. He's more deserving than SHAQ! I mean, Shaq was an amazing player and he still has a little gas left in the tank... by no means is Shaq a terrible player currently, but first team all NBA? Give me a break. If you're gonna give that to Shaq you might as well give the PF spot to Allen Iverson since we're defying logic on such a grandiose scale.

And all bias aside, you can make a real strong case that Yao, even minus 30 something games, should make first team at center. If Yao finishes strong (or even just solid) going into the playoffs... there is no damn reason why he shouldnt be the 1st team center.

So what if there was missed games coming into play. Yao deserve the MVP just like Denzel and Scorcasei deserved their Oscar. Maybe someone else was more deserving that year, but they were screwed enough that you have to make it up.

The only problem with Howard getting it is they obviously have a bias towards teams that have a better record. Last year proves it with Yao being statistically the best center in the NBA but losing it because the team had a horrible record. Shaq just shouldn't get it period. Amare getting it is arguable, but I Yao is still statistically better.

Ooo how could I forget Amare. Yeah, he's another I wouldn't really be furious about seeing... still, if yao finishes strong he deserves the selection.

No. If Dwight had as many shot attempts as Yao, he'd get double-teamed a lot more and his efficiency would drop down a lot. His offensive game is still raw and there's no way he could match Yao's offensive output with the same amount of touches.
