We might have to choose. While either one could play the 3, they're both 2's, and Walt went crazy here at the end. So if it came down to it, which one would you rather have? ------------------ I need a new signature. 302
I'd keep Anderson and trade Mobley in a heartbeat. Because of biases in Mobley's game (he's flashy and scores a lot more than he contributes to the team in other ways), we could get a lot more for him in a trade than he's really worth. Anderson is just the opposite -- the unselfish, all-around-game kind of player that every championship team must have. As for the Francis-Mobley friendship, what Francis and Mobley have together is history, not logic. Logically, they conflict. They both need the ball. Francis gets his teammates involved; Mobley doesn't. (Yes, the Mobley iso often works, but at the price of excluding and icing every other Rocket on the court.) Francis and Anderson is a more logical relationship: Anderson's skills and temperament compliment rather than compete with Francis's skills and temperament. In the long term, logic, not history, will determine whether our backcourt works.
anderson, anderson has all around game, and i think he's more valuable to the team. and i'm sure if mobley wanted to go else where he would let them do it in a sign and trade. ------------------ johnny "red" kerr:i'm glad the bulls did'nt draft steve francis. dan roan: why!!!!! johnny red kerr:because he would forever be compared to michael jordan.
I am still not going to chose because I think losing Mobley for nothing just isn't acceptable. He is arguably our 2nd most valuable player and is no worse than our 3rd best player. You just can't lose value like that with nothing in return without taking a huge hit on the team. Now given other trades/acquisitions I could change my mind. Having a superior defensive minded swing player like Finley, Jones or McGrady would make Shandon expendable, having a Carter, Allen or Kobe would make Mobley expendable, but until one of these unlikely things happen, or unless one of these players is instrumental to a huge trade (Duncan, maybe Kenyon or Fizer), I can't accept losing either player. ------------------
Can I pick Michael Dickerson? Damn I wish we still had him. Oh well. You have to trade talent to get talent. He's my pick as the NBA's next Dumars. ------------------ "We need to fockass".....Dream back in the day
Neither. I think it would be a huge step backwards to lose either player for nothing. I would lose anyone on the roster sans Francis before letting either one go. Of the rest of the players, losing Cato and KT would be the biggest hits, but they aren't worth losing one of our guards. I don't care that much that Walt got hot on offense the last 1/4 of the season, I would cut 2 or 3 Walt's lose before losing Mobley or Anderson. I don't mind keeping Walt, but I would go that far out of my way to do it because we want to go defense and athleticism. ------------------
Looks like no one wants to choose. I don't think we'll have to, or, if there is a chance of either of them leaving, I don't think we'll get to choose which one. However, to answer in the spirit of the question, I'd take Anderson. Mobley is valuable for his offense, but he's more easily replaceable than Andreson. It isn't just that Anderson plays better defense, either. He has an Elie-like quality that Mobley and 95% of the NBA doesn't have. He is professional and determined in a way you don't see many basketball players be. I don't think I'd give that up for anything. ------------------
