    #13 Rodney White, SF-PF
#18 (Keep the pick, let VAN squirm) [IMG] Pau Gasol, SF-PF
    #22 Gerald Wallace, SG-SF

Add two young, athletic, versatile Fs to the rotation. (With Nowitzski\Shrempf clone to follow next year, perhaps?)

It would be GREAT to add a C, but the only ones REALLY worth drafting will be long gone by #13, and assuming that the Rocks trade #18 to VAN to fulfill an obligation, the only other Cs worth consideration, Dalembert, Johnson, or Jones, will be gone by #22.

So its a case of "Best Available", which in terms of Wallace is not a bad scenario AT ALL!

    13 Rodney White
    18 Jason Collins
    22 Terence Morris

Would detroit be willing to trade down if it prevented the rockets to trade with vanc?

#13 - Joe Forte (if available.. a big if)
#18 - The most talented available big man
#22 - Terrance Morris seems okay at #22

Being an ACC fan, I could live happily with Forte at 13, Haywood at 18, and Morris at 22.

I think all those players will surpass expectations and all have significant competitive experience.

Of course, I'm not saying those three particulars are my preferences but I would live happily with them.

Forte is deceptively strong and clutch (usually), Haywood is a good, hard-working but talented fellow (maybe a little slow afoot), and Morris is mercurial but talented and well could blossom with Francis' assistance.

Of course, I'd rather go Battier, Forte, Haywood.

    13-Jefferson

18-Ken Johnson, Loren Woods if he has bad draft camp showings

22-Wallace or Forte, whoever is available.

#13 Joe Johnson (if available, in the end may prove not)

#18 Pau Gasol (see above, but I could really see this happening if available, because Rudy T and CD don't really want the pick this year anyway)

#22 Terence Morris (why not? Has talent; maybe not a go-to player, but his strengths, potential strengths fit what I feel the Rockets want from their SF - ability to hit the spot-up 3, size and length for D, mismatch, and fundamentals)

I guess this isn't realistic since they wouldn't draft a SF so high just to use lower picks on potential replacements at that position in case he doesn't work out. But I like these guys at their respective parts in the draft.

I am hoping the rockets could come away with the following draft:

Rodney White slips to #13, I love this guy. Fast, smooth, and would jell in nicely with Steve and Cat!

Joe Forte #18-He wasnt able to beat Duke, which resulted in questions about his ability to play in big games. Duke was just to good, and my own opinion was arguably the 2nd best 2 guard in college.

Omar Cooke #23-This game came to play in the NCAA Tourney. Only a freshman with tons of talent. Can score or pass. Provided insurance if Moochie leaves, if not, then he gives a 3rd option at either 1 or the 2.

    13.Richard Jefferson
    18.Pau Gasol
    22.Jason Collins

I would like to have Rodney White or Joe Johnson with the 13th pick but if they have strong workouts, both will be gone before the 13th pick.I think that Jason Collins might be gone by the 22nd pick,if that is the case, then take Omar Cook.

Those of you who are saying we should draft Gasol, have you read his stat line from his last two seasons in the other thread discussing him (I think in the Rockets forum)?

The stats are very bad... very bad.

    #18. brendan haywood

#22. osumane cisse (i didn't want a HS player, but i doubt thet we will keep this pick. at #22 it's worth the risk)

    OR:

    #13. loren woods

    #18. joe forte

RunninRaven, I agree. Those are really ugly #'s. I "might" gamble on him with the 22nd pick, but definately not the other 2 picks.

What I would really hope for is Vancouver swapping picks with us. We get their #6 & #33 (I would prefer the #27, but maybe that's asking for too much), and they get our #13, #18 (if we get that pick), & #22.

If that trade scenario plays out, I would like Rodney White or Sagana Diop to be the #6 pick. And then take a chance on Ousmane Cisse with the #33 or #27 pick.

If that trade is only my way of dreamcasting, then... I will hope Joe Johnson slips into our #13 slot. If not then, I would like to have Jefferson. I am sure that we will ship our #18 pick to Van, if not another team. For #22, the best athlete available.

WOW, I got a chance to check out Gasol's stats, too. I'm not a big stats guy usually, but they do raise some questions. I mean, if he shoots a lot of 3s or he played on a deep and talented team that played together, then they're OK.

    Just in case,

    Option 2:

    13 - White
    18 - Dalembert
    22 - Jeff Trapegnier(sp?)

Yeah, some may be say WHAT?!?! or choking on their almond mocha right now, but Trapegnier has shown well in the pre-Draft tourneys. He's a FANTASTIC athlete with a solid J, solid defender, and with his leaping ability could swing over to the 3 on occassion. So you add a scoring F in White, a shot-blocking C in Dalembert with UNLIMITED potential (I read that the guy has a 7'-5" WINGSPAN! [IMG] ), and a solid backup\energy player at SG.

    Guys......
The thing to remember here is the Rocks want to avoid salary to chase Webber while gaining the best possible player that can contribute right away.

My guess here is that CD & Co. will trade their picks to move up.

Vancouver/Memphis looks like the best candidate.

They want #18. We want something in return.

I am quite sure they would accept #31, #18 and a player (Cato, Williams or Collier). for their #6. They are in a serious bind for next year. This draft is very deep. They would still get a great young stud + a vet.

The Rocks would get single player they want (Battier, Johnson, Jefferson, Diop, Bradley, White, etc.) and they would retain cap space for Webber.

We also have the #22 pick to sweetin the pot or trade with another vet.

The cap is everything this year. We need cash. At a minimum we must retain Taylor if all else fails.

    13- Joe Johnson
    18- Brendan Haywood
    22- Joe Forte/Gilbert Arenas/Trenton Hassel

Johnson may be a reach at number 13(to be available), but I think he'd be a perfect fit with Stevie and Cat. Haywood seems to be a Rudy T. type player who will hopefully not turn out to be Cato part II. At 22, I think it would be smart to pick up someone to backup Cuttino at the 2 since it looks like Shandon may not be returning. All of the SGs mentioned above could be instant offense off of the bench.

Something to consider: The lakers aren't in the draft this year, and if the rockets aren't able to package the picks, and since supposedly the rockets don't want three draft picks, they could trade the 22 for the lakers' 3 or 4 million dollar trade exception.

Why is it Gasol's 11.0 ppg against the best in Europe are questioned and no one is bothered by Diop's 14.6 average against HIGH SCHOOL kids? I know....potential.

    hotshotsrb2,
I agree Vancouver is in a bind and want the #18 badly, but it's to PROTECT their lottery pick, not to deal it away. I won't say they'd absolutely refuse a deal involving the #13 and a solid starter or two, but I'm not as confident that they'd so easily give up the #6 to us.

    Relativist,
Actually, that was my post. hotshotrb2 was adding a comment that I agree with.

Vancouver would like to pretect their #6 as you pointed out, but if they don't forward a pick to Detroit this year, they must give up whatever pick they have next year (not lottery protected).

Better for them to give up #6 get #13 and a player and have a high draft pick next year (cause they are gonna suck next year anyway) than fork over a possible #1 to Detroit and get nothing in return. This is specifically why CD stated he wanted to see how gratful Vancouver would be.

    out like LA electricity.....
