I wanna say Nique, he was robbed as others are alluding to. But what Vince Carter did in 01 was just flat out stupid (in a good way). I really can't see anyone topping it. There was one dunk though in the College Dunk contest from a guy named Melvin ? for Cincinnati in 98 or 99 did a dunk from the free throw line off TWO FEET. It was crazy. He beat Chris Klack from Texas who also had some hops.
you know, i wanted to give it to nique. and i probably would vote jordan if i didn't hate him, but vince carter at his peak was just so damn good it was amazing. i mean for about a two year stretch, he seemed like he was on sportscenter every night. and then he came to the dunk contest. it was basically just a coronation and when he did his first dunk, a reverse 360 (more like 270) windmill, the crowd was impressed and i tried to think if i had ever seen that before (i couldn't remember one like it). and then he went between the legs and became legendary. there were two dunks to go but kenny was right, it was over. it's funny, but i think mason and richardson have had better dunks since with mason going between the legs off the backboard and richardson going between the legs but doing it with his back to the basket and using his left hand. and yet that dunk still stands out as kind of the last great moment in dunk contest history. it was just so electric when it happened and carter's dunks are always so fluid and pretty that they stand above the rapid power of the richardson and mason dunks. and then of course vince pulled off the greatest in game dunk of all time by going over weis (oh the ignominy. could've just been a bust in new york, but then he had to go and get dunked not on, but over, to make sure people would remember he sucked forever). so that's why i voted for vince.
i tihnk it's the other way around chief... i'd give it to vince as well, simply because that dunk contest with mcgrady, vince and francis was sickening beyond belief...and he pulled it out in style.
Drexler? Kemp? Good dunkers, athletic, but not really imaginative in a slam dunk contest way. I'd add Baby Jordan in the mix, Harold Miner. He won the event twice I think and had some really impressive dunks. I'd vote for Carter, but Miner would go in my top 5.
you mean which guy did which dunk? i was pretty sure richardson did the bounce, between the legs backward one and mason was off the backboard. though jr has had a few b/t the legs i think so maybe i mixed one up. but in cases like this, i think we have to defer to the better point guard in the screen name and i clearly win. oh, and that was the other thing about the 2001 contest, the hanging by the elbow dunk. that was a "wtf did he just do?" moment if there ever was one. seems like that would be weird to practice not knowing whether you'll hold yourself up or rip your elbow off.
Nique had some of the most impressive in game dunks I have ever seen. Web had the most gravity defying dunks in competitions. I don't remember him dunking in game though.
well i guess it can't really be a foul if you just go over the guy. he sorta put his hand on his face as he went over (i guess to protect the jewels) but on something that spectacular you can't call that.
