This needs more explaining. Are we forming 2 teams from the 2 states? or is there some bracket-type thing? If so, we have 1 less team...

If it's the former, I think I'd go with

    Yao/Duncan
    Duncan/Dirk
    TMac/Howard
    Ginobli/TMac
    Kidd/Parker

    as "our" line up.

    Kaman/Bynum
    Gasol/Harrington?
    Jackson? Odom?
    Kobe/Martin
    BDiddy/Ellis

against something like that? Certaintly help if they still had Brand and Bibby, but i think I'm forgetting some guys anyway.

It would be one team for each state. I like this:

    Texas:

    Tony Parker / Jason Kidd
Manu Ginobili / Jerry Stackhouse / Jason Terry
    Tracy McGrady / Josh Howard
Dirk Nowitzki / Luis Scola / Brandon Bass
    Tim Duncan / Yao Ming

    California:

    Baron Davis / Monta Ellis
Kobe Bryant / Corey Maggette / Kevin Martin
    Ron Artest / Stephen Jackson
Pau Gasol / Marcus Camby / Al Harrington
    Andrew Bynum / Chris Kaman

    Texas:

    Yao
    Duncan
    Nowitzki
    Ginobili
    Parker
    McGrady
    Kidd

    are the givens.

Battier and Bowen for shutting down wing players when needed.

Add Barry for 3s and that leaves you with Howard and Scola rounding out the roster. (5 Rockets, 3 Mavs, 4 Spurs)

    For California:

    Kobe
    Baron
    Monta
    Artest
    Harrington
    Odom
    Jackson
    Maggette
    Kaman
    Gasol
    Bynum
    Martin

    (2 Kings, 2 Clips, 4 Warriors, 4 Lakers)

Texas has a big advantage in Big Men and a slight advantage in defense.

Thus, I believe Texas would win a 7 game series.

Honestly, if it's ONE game and I had to bet on a team? I'd give it to Cali

In a 7 game series, I'll probably go with Texas however, but not by much

    Texas roster IMO:

    C: Yao
    PF: Duncan
    SF: Josh Howard
    SG: McGrady
    PG: Parker

    Back ups:

    C: Mutombo, Diop
    PF: Dirk, Scola, Bass
    SF: Battier, Stackhouse
    SG: Ginobli, J. Terry
    PG: Kidd

    California Roster IMO:

    C: Camby
    PF: Pau Gasol
    SF: Artest
    SG: K. Bryant
    PG: M. Ellis

    Back ups:

    C: Bynum
    PF: Al Harrington, Tim Thomas
    SF: Odom, S. Jackson, Maggette
    SG: Vujacic, K. Martin
    PG: D. Fisher, B. Davis

    Center: Texas
    PF: Texas
    SF: Cali
SG: Texas because of stronger bench. Kevin Martin is no slouch though.
    PG: Cali

    Explanation:

Center: I think Yao Ming alone would create havoc for both Camby and Bynum. Camby has inflated defensive stats and is only a good weakside defender. Man to man he gets abused and he would get abused often by Yao. Bynum's size would only be a marginal obstacle for Yao, but he's too inexperienced still, and I think his stats are inflated from feeding off of Kobe. Mutombo, and Diop would be great backups defensively and for put backs. Diop has a nice game too.

PF: I think Texas wins because Pau is soft and he's going against a 3 time MVP in Duncan even if he has shown signs of aging. I think the bench would overpower Pau as well despite having no real big names. The only chance Cali would have is if T. Thomas and Harrington were to spread the defense and rain 3s on the perimeter. Doing this would open up lanes for their guards.

SF: Simply put Artest would overpower Howard and his defense would provide a very strong presence on the court. Cali's backups are just plain better. Battier is one dimensional, and Stackhouse is aging compared to Cali's bench.

SG: This is a tough one but I side with Texas. McGrady is actually a good defender when he tries and is a great distributor. Almost enough to help the PG position to give the flow of offense more fluidity. Having players like Yao and Duncan to feed off of for slashes in the paint is a plus. He is inferior to Bryant obviously. But the bench is better than Cali's bench in my opinion. Ginobli is always the leader of the pack in 6th man awards, and Terry is a good offensive spark off the bench too. Martin is no slouch though. It's very close though.

PG: Cali is stronger because Ellis is more explosive than Parker which is quite a feat. I also realize Ellis is more of a SG than a PG but I think that can be put aside. Their backups are youthful and have better offensive explosiveness. Kidd is way past his prime and is an offensive liability.

All in all I see Texas giving defensive nightmares to Cali despite Artest's and Bryant's presence on the backcourt. In terms of actual team chemistry against I have to give Texas the nod. Their front court can feed the back court with ease and the back court will have open lanes to finish and create because of it. Again defensively I think Texas would overpower Cali.

I think the question infers more of a round robin tournament format, maybe a three game series between each team. I think it would end up something like 15 -12 Texas. This assumes full strength squads though, you can't just go back and look at the head to heads for '07 because of injuries.

Its Texas all the way. The Lakers can't beat the Rockets, and all the other California teams can't compete with us or the spurs. Perhaps the Clippers would beat the Mavericks cause they crap themselves whenever they see a superstar point guard.

Texas would dominate plus you have to factor in the clashing ego's of Kobe + Artest. Those two are drama queens plus everybody knows when the going gets tough Baron Davis stops caring.

4/5 should have rings (Dirk: 2006) so the experience factor isn't even close.

It will be more interesting to match up California natives against Texas natives.

    Baron/Gilbert/Prince etc vs Deron/Durant etc

There's been a slight shift in power from Cali to Texas now. Please re-adjust rosters for different probabilities
