I think this year there are really only 5 title contenders,
    Detroit
    San Antonio
    Dallas
    Pheonix
    Miami

I think we'll see a Dallas VS Detroit finals, and Dallas will knock out San Antonio this year in the West (Dont like them, but i think they will knock out the Spurs)

But Detroit will win it, for obvious reasons, I dont think there is a team in the NBA that can take Detroit in a 7-game series.

    Any thoughts?

San Antonio - wont win it all unless Duncan is able to get back to form.
Dallas - capable of 60 wins in the regular season, incapable of winning it all.
    Pheonix - see above
Miami - I always feel they are still missing something to win the championship. What's that something? May be someone can tell me.

    hence...my vote for the Pistons.

    its going to be detroit.

San Antonio: only way they can win is if tim steps up again
Dallas: never been a good playoff team.. a good season team.. but not
    playoff
Miami: they have enough talent to beat detroit, but don't have chemistry
    like detroit
Phoneix: i'm not sure if u can call them contenders for the title

Detroit: everything miami has plus chemistry

well the only reason i put pheonix in was because they made the conference finals last year, and they are pretty good this year too

but no Amare so I should have taken them outta the poll

Pistons, They will have home court fot the finals. Improved Chemistry, Addition of Tony Delk off the bench for some offensive firepower. There wont be a Larry Brown distraction. I dont think they can be stopped.

I would like Phoenix win it ( Steve Nash is an excellent player), but I dont think its gonna happen,

    Spurs beat Detroit in 7.

I would like the Heat to win it. I can't believe people are writing them off. They are locked into that 2nd sead and have turned off the "heat" and have been recuperating (jason Williams, Posey, Mourning, even Wade and Shaq aren't playing much). This team will beat the Nets (probably in 6) and will battle it out with the Pistons. That's going to be a tough series but last season the Heat only lost b/c both D Wade and shaq were half injured (and they still came withing minutes of going to the final). I hope Zo will win his first title! If they don't win, I hope the Suns do, especially without Amare!

How many times did the Heat beat the Nets during the regular season again? was it 1 or 0?

Miami is worse than their record indicates. In many of their wins, they would be down by double digits early. They slow down the game down in the third Q and climb back. No team is going to let you erase a 15pt lead 3-4 games in a playoff series. If miami meets NJ in the second round, NJ wins in 6

I am rooting against the Pistons just so that lazy, overpaid slug Kelvin Cato doesn't get a championship ring. I'll say the Spurs. They win without even trying...

Almost 100% agreed, except my 2nd pick to win the East is the Nets. If they are healthy and VC doesn't pull his playoff choking act, I give them a decent chance to beat the Pistons in the ECFs.

Spurs have sleep-walked to 61 wins; Duncan has begun to turn it on as of late (looks like Horry has rubbed off).

The West is not nearly as tough a road as last season.

Flip has coached for a big win total, but does not coach playoff-style like LB did.

    Spurs over Detroit in 5.

it's pretty clearly the pistons title to lose, they've been the best team all year. sadly, i have a gut feeling that the mavs are gonna get to the finals. i hope detroit kills them.
