There are three big stars coming out with movies this weekend. Bruce Willis in "Hart's War" Denzel Washington in "John Q" and the so-called singer/actress Britney Spears in "crossroads. Then Disney has a cartoon coming out with "Return to Neverland" and a subpar movie called "Super Troopers" is also hitting movie theatres. Who do you all think will win the box office battle this weekend? I'm hoping Denzel's will come out on top and Britney's movie sinks but that probably won't be the case.

Even though music stars such as Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, NSYNC, Method Man, and Redman haven't done so well at the box office in the past several months, Mandy Moore's recent theatrical effort has done OK (it peaked at #3). I think Britney will pull in more viewers than her because she is more popular but what do you expect from the over-advertising of her and this movie. I'm hoping this is one prediction which I am incorrect on though.

    What do you all think?

Why do you say Super Troopers is a subpar movie? Have you seen it yet? I've read early reviews for John Q, Crossroads, and Hart's War and believe it or not, Super Troopers has gotten better reviews. John Q will probably win the weekend but the best movies don't necessarily win weekends.

I might watch the Spears movie, because I believe that movie's Unintentional Comedy Quotient will be off the charts.

I won't watch Hart's War, the previews ruined the "secret" in the movie.

I think the curiosity factor should push Crossroads to #1 or #2 for movies released on 2/15 this weekend. The only movie I'd pay to see out of that group is John Q, but I'll end up watching Crossroads.

If you want to see a clip of the movie click here. Go to "Get His Keys". The curiosity factor is too much.

I called it a subpar movie because that's my opinion based on the previews and that it probably won't do as well as the others at the box office but I didn't base it on what critics are saying.

I'm going to see Super Troopers, myself...I've always been a big fan of the low budget comedies. Could be an early sleeper this year...

This weekend will be a mixed bag. Maybe Arnold and Denzel will duke it out. The Olympics are drawing off a lot of moviegoing attention.

Some movies will get Oscar-nominated boosts (LOTR, Gosford Park, Iris) but they won't, of course, dent the top of the box office.

Austinites, ever been to Regal Gateway 16?

I have Regal movie passes, and that's the only Regal Cinema in town playing Crossroads. If I'm gonna see it, I'm gonna use a pass.

It's at 183 and Capital of Texas Hwy...what the hell is Capital of Texas Hwy...Mopac or 360?

btw, it feels good to be back in Houston.

Well, I posted this in the other thread even though I meant to post it in this one (stupid me). I went and saw Super Troopers this afternoon. It had several laugh out loud moments, and I enjoyed it. Not a ccomedy classic, but a nice way to spend part of an afternoon.

John Q, hands down. It's tough, riveting, & will rip your heart out. Especially, if you have kids. It's worth every penny.

I agree. I saw this movie last night and even though I don't have children I agree with everything you said. If you see a movie this weekend go see John Q.

If you guys actually look at the average grade givin by movie critics (movies.yahoo.com), "Crossroads" was liked more than John Q by critics.

Whew, I thought you meant who'd win the Box Office prize money on the game show "Hollywood Showdown" on the GameShow Network.

 Who cares what critics say or think? I go to a movie because I want to see it not because somebody said it was good or bad. Screw the critics! Who else agrees with me?

I generally detest critics however I use them as a guide. Movies.com usually has an area for each movie where they gather the reviews of about 15 critics from around the country. When most of the reviews are bad or good that's usually a pretty good indicator.

Well it looks like "John Q" won this weekends box office draw with a little more than $20 million pulled in. It's just too bad that Ms. Spears flick "Crossroads did well with more than $14 million pulled in. I can't believe "Hart's War" fared so bad with just almost a little over $8 million made. At least "John Q" won but damn it I wish "Crossroads" would have failed miserably!

    Here's the top 10:

    1. "John Q," $20.6 million.

    2. "Crossroads," $14.6 million.

    3. "Return to Never Land," $11.8 million.

    4. "Collateral Damage," $9.1 million.

    5. "Big Fat Liar," $8.7 million.

    6. "A Beautiful Mind," $8.5 million.

    7. "Hart's War," $8.3 million.

8 (tie). "Black Hawk Down," $6.2 million.

8 (tie). "Super Troopers," $6.2 million.

    10. "Snow Dogs," $5.8 million.

I saw John Q last night. wow.

after seeing Hart's War on friday night, I'd give it an 8.5.

    I'd give John Q a 10.

I can't remember the last time an audience was that into a movie.
