http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/6021605.html So, how are we going to lose the salary needed to resign Deke and/or stay under the cap?
Nvm...didn't see the above link. I guess we need to give Head...away. For a pick or something? We'll get SOME money back if we trade him for a 2nd rounder, probably?
So if you trade Luther for a pick, is that enough? Can you still sign Von Wafer to fill the 14th man/backup shooter spot?
The total salary is around 72.2m w/o counting Strawberry's 770k. Luther makes 2m so even we send him away it's still hard to sign new players not named Dorsey and Mutombo.
It's actually a double whammy. Dollar for Dollar penalty for above the cap and you lose the pool money.
with tmac and barry's history of injury, luther head is a needed insurance policy at the end of the bench. my money is on steve because morey was talking about bringing in damon stoudamire and darrell armstrong to camp. either one of those guys would sign for the minimum. if thats the line of thinking then steve's $2.4M seems like anti money ball.
Francis would be traded for a second-round pick to a team with TE. Expiring contract of a done player, makes sense to me.
To think that Francis will only worth 2nd round pick give me a bad taste in my mouth. He is very loyal to Rockets after all.... I want him to finish his career here if possible....
why? because he was nice to Yao Ming? steve never developed his game and is paying the price now that his athleticism is fading. he is a shell of his former self and Deke is much more valuable to us than Steve (IMO)
I can only see it being either Head or Francis. Of course, Morey has never ceased to surprise us so who knows... Mutombo has no reason to rush back (We can definitely do without him at the beginning of the season when all the legs are fresh) and I could honestly see him waiting until after the all-star break to join us.
Rockets need to shed around $4M to fit Deke in on the vet's min. Francis ($2.6M) + Head ($1.9M) / Hayes ($1.9M) for TEs. There's also the possibility of moving Landry.
