I think that Griffin will emerge as the Rockets best player in the next couple of years. Griffin for some reason seems to have the best upside. I have high expectations for Ming, but I think Ming at best will be a good Divac, Smits, or post injury Sabonis type of player. A guy who will be a huge upside, but I just can't see him as the next Kareem of Hakeem. So, who's star will shine brighter Ming's or Griffin's?
I think Griffin will become a great player, but he won't help as much as Yao Ming. Griffin could become an all-star player, but Yao has the potential to become a top 5 center of all time (notice, i said potential). With his rare height and outside touch, he definately has more potential to help the rockets more. But Griffin's got game...just not as much IMO.
Ming will definitely help the Rockets more, just based on height alone and how many double teams he will draw. Griffin will still be a stud, but Ming will cause headaches for opponents; thats for sure.
Are you talking about next year, or in a few years, say 5? Next year, Yao SHOULD make a bigger impact. Got to remember that Griff will still be kind of young, though should get more pt than last year. But Yao should be much further along, I would think. As for 5 years from now, I have no idea. Yao has the upper hand and has a lot of potential, but Griff has a butt-load of potential as well. I think it just depends on how things work out.
Not to be a buttcheese, but does it matter? They will both be working for the same goal, to help the Rockets win. They are both young, talented, and have sky's the limit potential, I think they will feed off of each other game and become one of the most feared tandoms in the L. They both will in the long run help the Rockets, but right now when then start playing I think they will help each other more. Yao will have Griff's back and Griff will have Yao's back on D. I can't wait for all this to come together, can you!!!
Ming should help the Rockets A LOT more than Griffin, simply because having Ming on the floor instead of Cato should be a greater improvement than having Griff on the floor instead of MoT. Thats if you can consider Griff being better than Taylor at this point, which he probably isn't. That being said, I'd much rather have Ming and Taylor on the floor than Griff and Cato. Of course the reality might be a little different. Who knows what kind of chemistry they'll have with each other. PS: 500th post! yeesh!
Ming has shown a lot more skill than griffin and i don't think griffin can learn to shoot as well as ming. Ming also has the height advantage and probaly will be a better shot blocker.
both have incredible potential but ming with his height and skills may become the best. as of now he might already be as good as divac and smits but with experience he should most certainly move way past them. of course as long as they both play for us it won't matter who's better. imo, griffin has shown as much skill as ming just in different areas. certainly shot-blocking he's more talented, but ming's height makes it almost equal.
Truly said...hmm Truth. Whats better: A Bentley or Rolce Royce? I say who the hell cares? I'll take either one. And with the Rockets its even better! They have both!
Ming will help the Rockets more because he's more of an upgrade over Cato than Griffin is over MoT and KT. I'm not saying Griffin isn't going to be a big upgrade, in fact I think he will, but not compared to the upgrade we're getting at the 5. Look at it this way, Ming MoT/KT Rice/Snackbar Cat Franchise is at least slightly better than Cato Griffin/MoT/KT Rice/Snackbar Cat Franchise But that's just my opinion.
I wanna say one thing. Stop comparing Ming with Smits and "Marlboro Man" Divac. Ming is a far greater shooter than both of those guys. Ming doesn't know how to flop (yet). Neither of those guys can wreak as much havoc as Yao can. Sidenote, Divac does have that crazy reverse layup across the lane.
For all the upps eddie gets on the defensive end blocking random people, I wanna see him start dunkin on people. I've seen him bust a reverse on Lakers, but i'm talkin about Sheed kinda vicious dunks. From Yao, I would like to see him block shaq the first time they ever meet. If Yao had 78 games with some sorry stats, but dominated "Shaq fu" aka "Shaq Diesel" aka "The big aristotle" aka "The big dumb A55" I would be happy.
The title should be "Yao or Griffin", as opposed to the current "Ming or Griffin". For the time being, Yao has no less defensive presence than Griffin does. He's more polished offensively though - unless Griffin's made BIG improvement this summer in that aspect - so I'll go with Yao now. Don't know who will be better in the future, that doesn't matter as long as they're Rockets. Their future companionship is what I look forward to. A lot. See my sig.
I really can't say to be honest. I believe both will be essential for our title run but to say one is more important than the other uhm... I think if the two mold together, we've got ourselves Twin Towers that'll make people forget about the twin towers in San Antonio... David who? Tim who? .... I sure as hell believe it... I hope those two become best friends!
I think their potential is equal. Eddie was a first round 7th pick, 1 year removed from high school competition, with only 1 year of college level experience and was barely 19 years old. Many had him projected as a #1 pick, except everybody went high school crazy and Battier was the "emotional" immediate impact pick. Eddie has two years to go before he will be Ming's age right now (if he stayed in college, he would be the #1 for certain in two years) By then he should be extremely good, and he should probably be our starting PF - at 22 years old! Yao Ming - 7' 6" 300 pounds with incredible athleticism and a sweet shooting touch - that's potential. You can't teach height and size. Now, the challenge is for the Rockets to mold that potential into a superstar. It seems to me they have vast eperience at doing this before...
Ming for sure. Ming is a center and remember there are not that many good centers in this league right now. There are many great PF in this league. It will be harder for Griffin to be as good as Ming against the competintion. Ming will kick some butt against his competion. Ming will impact more individually team wise, but with both together it will be awesome defensively.
