If they don't beat the Celts in this series, then a new coach might be needed.

Did you hear Jon Barry rip Miami's coaching? That is so rare. I don't like him but props for the candid remarks.

The Heat really need a well-respected coach. Spoelstra is a pushover. Which is why Wade is on douche-mode this season and last. Phil Jackson would be a good fit lmao.

Won't be Phil Jackson - he and Pat Riley are not exactly pals.

Mike Brown? Prolly Riley will step in again. D'Antoni might make an interesting fit though.

Pat would probably want to save his team himself.

Other thing you have to consider - Wade and LeBron, like a lot of other established megastars - absolutely do not respond well to authoritarian coaches. They expect a lot of latitude and consider their play elite enough to be above coaching. Pair them with a control freak like Larry Brown or Jerry Sloan and you'll have a disaster in a flash.

I don't think even Riley wants to run this group.

It's awkward, but it's almost like you need a coach that will let Wade and LeBron do what they please and focus on coaching the rest of the roster. You need a player friendly defensive minded guy that garners a lot of instant respect, and I don't even know who that might be.

I could almost see JVG being that guy - for all his rep, he's always used kid gloves with his star players. He wasn't the one Spree choked out.

Wade responded just fine to Riles, who is too old to want to take over now and has already fired that bullet 6 years ago. For most players, it's respect that determines how heavy-handed a coach can be. From bits and pieces I've read the last couple of years, Riles and LeBron simply don't like each other, which is another reason Riles won't return to the bench.

I agree LeBron has to be coddled because it's what he's accustomed to but the other Heat players would respond to a authoritarian.

You described Mike Brown minus the respect part. Would say Rudy T but he is more of a coach for hard working players who get no respect than the diva show at miami.

You don't like Jon?! I love that guy, I think he does an excellent job.

What is it that you don't like about him?

To answer the OP's question: I think it will be between 3 people --
    Spoelstra
    Riley
    Van Gundy

Let's get Heat a HOF coach and LeBron fanbois may finally run out of excuses. Oh wait, he didn't have all star center and PG to help last time I checked.
