IMHO it is Beasley and it is not even close, the guy was a monster in college, Rose is good, but I think Beasley is by far the better pro.

    What do you guys think?

I think that both of them are going to be great players.

Too tough for me to guess b/c they play different positions and I think each one of them is going to be great.

I think Beasley will have a better rookie year

I say Beasley dude should be a beast and stuff will open up for him more by playing beside Wade and Marion.

If I knew Beasley could play halfway decent defense, then I would choose him. Too much is made of "we HAVE to get a top 5 point guard to win!!! ZOMG! Chris Paul and Deron Williams!" these days. Rajon Rondo and Derek Fisher are average at best. So were Kenny Smith, Steve Kerr, Paxson, etc. The best players will win championships, and I think Beasley will be a better player (as long as he can play D).

On a side note: is Stephen A. Smith a complete tool and idiot or am I missing something? He keeps saying that Beasley is seen as a character concern because he went to a lot of high schools, which is why Miami was higher on Mayo. OJ Mayo went to like 8 high schools himself and is almost as old as LeBron James! I can't tell if he's simply ignorant of this or is choosing to ignore it. Someone please explain this to me.

Beasley's character issues may be one of the most overblown stories ever, considering his issue was pranks in high school. In college there were no stories about him being an issue. Same with O.J. Mayo, coming out of high school people made it seem like he was a jerk but in college he seemed real laidback and humble. Not the showboat that they portrayed O.J. as.

Rose. The guy is the most athletic PG to enter the league since Steve Francis and Baron Davis, and he has much better pure PG skills than either of those two. Beasley is a great offensive player and should be a very good scorer throughout his career, but I'd take Rose over him easy.

I still don't buy that Rose has special point guard skills. He is a great ball handler and a extremely willing distributor, but I don't see anything in his passing and playmaking that leads me to believe that he's Chris Paul or Jason Kidd in that regard. I am a huge fan of big, athletic point guards that can defend, but I don't see Rose as that type of transcendent offensive talent.

His Assists were down in college because he played in such a unique offense with Memphis. But I think he clearly has excellent passing ability. In the open court he's a freaking nightmare for the opposing teams.

Beasley is far more skilled and there's a 90% chance he'll have the better rookie year and he'll likely have the better sophmore year, but by year 3 I think Rose will become an impact NBA superstar.

Nice pick up of Mario Chalmers too, maybe a nice role player. They will already be good in the East, they just need a FA center to be really tough. I like this teams upside more than Chic.

Oh, I am totally in favor of Beasley.

I have to say Beasley, remember Rose didn't step up until the end of the year while CDR was their best player until Rose finally stepped up. While Beasley was consistent throughout the entire year. But then again who really knows how these guys games will translate once they are in the league.

I'm not talking about his numbers (which were great for a freshman PG), I just didn't see any spectacular passes. He seems to be a very traditional drive-and-dish type PG. There are 3-4 Chris Paul passes every game that make me go WOW, even simple passes like driving into the lane and dishing to a trailer for a 3. His vision and timing is just perfect. I didn't even see that from Rose and I watched around 10 Memphis games. I just don't know if he'll live up to his playmaking expectations.

    Beasley by a longshot but...

the problem is that he plays that 3/4 position (aka the least important position on the court) while Rose is a strong true PG (very rare).

What's funny is that, despite all this debate, I don't think either of them will win ROY. With Portland's likely upcoming winning record and potential playoffs trip next season, G.O. is almost a lock.

Paul Pierce just won Finals MVP and he came into the league as a 3/4 with limited defense. Beasley has the chance to be even better. I still haven't seen evidence that a great point guard is more valuable than a great wing or big man. It's certainly the sexy position right now, but teams routinely win championships without one.

I voted Rose because "better" in my mind will ultimately be decided by wins and championships. Beasley will be the numbers guy, Rose will be the impact guy.

Rose is a true floor general with the ability to control and change the game the way only a few great PG's can. He's entering a great situation in Chicago. Expect basketball to be relevant again in Chicago thanks in large part to this guy.

I think Beasley is a lock for rookie of the year. Over time, Rose will be the better NBA player. Bulls made the right choice.

beasley=bust, I don't hate the kid, I have nothing against him. I just don't see his game translating, he's about two inches too short and he doesn't have the athleticism to make up for it.

I like rose a lot, but just like steve francis, a lack of a jump shot will hinder him. but at least that's something you can develop

I'm with you pgabriel. I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say bust...but I'm certainly not convinced his game translates to anything remotely close to a guy taken with the 2nd pick.

I think Rose will be very good.

Point guard is the most difficult spot to pick and the most difficult to make the transition from college to pro. I'd have to go with Beasley just off that.
