Assume both Tracy and Yao are completely healthy. Which player will be most important to our team? Simple question; comments welcome. I'll reserve comment for now.
Yao. His presence makes us a serious defensive team. He has improved in every aspect of the game, in terms of translating his abilities at the NBA level. Tracy has regressed in that he is more Reggie Miller now than Michael. He is a jumpshooter and rarely attacks the goal. This has been true of him for the last several seasons. The more it appears that Yao is becoming dominant in the low post, it is equally easy to see Tracy settle for being an outside shooter.
Yao easily there is not any other big man other than Amare who should give Yao any trouble, the jury is still out on T-mac until we see him in action, i just hope the team itself is good over all.
Yao, because I doubt they will both be "completely healthy". When they are both healthy they're both capable of being DOMINANT.. But I think TMAC will miss 5~10 games..
In fact Amare did not giving Yao any problem when they played against each other. I think is the other way round, Yao was giving Amare problem.
I don't know which it's going to be but I know which one it better be. If Yao doesn't dominate and we've given up quicker and more athletic players (read: better in transition) for Battier, then the Rockets have shot themselves in the foot.
I think Yao has to dominate like he did at the tail end of last season. Tmac can play the complimentary role. Yao is our greatest competitive advantage. This team is built around him. Yao needs to dominate, and then Tmac needs to be our "closer" at the end of games ala Kobe for the Lakers when he played with Shaq.
Yao - JVG isn't changing that inside/outside offense and Yao is the most important player in that offense, he will touch the ball more than anybody on the team and should turn those touches into points or assists. This is a pivotal year for McGrady, there are so many questions about his health, if he can have a season without injury it will be a relief for everyone.
Two different questions. McGrady is our best (most talented) player but it is more important for Yao to dominate. If he plays like he did the second half of last year for the whole year and McGrady plays like he did two years ago or, better yet, when he was in Orlando (when he was more efficient) then we can beat anyone in the playoffs.
Not really two different questions. Best does not mean most talented. Best means who do you think will perform. Forget talent; think performance. The word talent is the most abused term in the NBA.
If the healthy Mac Shows up, it's him, if not, it's yao... the offense will start with tracy. once the ball is in our offensive halfcourt set, the first plyer to start the offense will be tracy.
way to answer the question... i will say mcgrady next year... he has alot of doubters and that's exactly what gets TMAC going. but it will be close. yao is really starting to come into his own.
It better be T-Mac. Those picked Yao obviously don't understand today's game. One on one, there is probably no one can stop him. But post is much easier to guard than the perimeter now. Throwing two guys at Yao all time and he can't even get the ball. Plus he is not very mobile like Duncan who can dribble the ball from the shoulder of the paint. Plus his mid-range jumper is gone. I also noticed that whenever Yao had a huge game last year, the offense normally looked very stagnant. Everyone just tried every way to give ball to Yao in the post and stayed around perimeter and then watched. But when T-Mac had a good game, he opened up everything inside and outside. T-Mac is the key here. If he is not healthy and misses many games, then no matter how pretty Yao's stats look like, Rox will lose more game than they win.
Yao's midrange jumper isn't gone. It's just hasn't been incorporated in the offense for the past two years. He's still got the touch: http://youtube.com/watch?v=F7kHG8Y00Rg&search=Yao work out The problem is that we don't do enough to get him open shots. Flash Cuts, Pick and Pops, back picks, there are numerous ways that we can get Yao easy looks from 15 ft. I thought it was insane that we didn't run some side pick and roll/pops between Rafer and Yao after Tracy went down. That's one play that Rafer is good at, and has had success with Juwan in the past. Elton Brand has elevated his game to another level by primarily developing a dead-eye midrange game. There's no reason why Yao can't do the same and enchance low post game as well so that opposing defense can't key in on any one aspect of his game.
Simply Tmac if he is healthy! I mean you have to put that disclaimer in there but i wonder if all yall mean that even if Tmac is healthy Yao will still be better! Because thats obsurd tmac is when healthy far and away our best! At the end of the game the ball is in his hands no doubt!
