Seattle Brent Barry FA is a good F/G. He can play as a SF or a backup PG. It is perfect for ROX

Kurt Thomas can actually opt out of his contract this year, and some Knicks fans think he will. I actually think we'd have a decent chance of luring him to the Rockets if he did. Why?

    1) JVG connection
    2) he actually wants to be in Dallas. Not sure if he's from there or what. At any rate, Houston's close enough.
    3) With the Rockets, his starting job would be secure. Thomas wasn't too happy about losing his starting job to McDyess. Thomas wouldn't start for Dallas unless at center.
    4) And I think he fits here. We need his talents. Tough, defensive-minded. Knicks fans were complaining that he shoots mid-range jumpers a bit too much this year, but that wouldn't really be a problem with the Rockets since we need our PF to do that anyway, although putbacks and a little low-post game would be nice.

Really, the only problem is money, but maybe he'd take the MLE. If he were sincere about Houston, I could see a sign-and-trade using our trade exception and a draft pick or something and that could get him more money.

IMHO, Kurt Thomas will want more than the MLE. In that case, a SnT will be very difficult (nearly impossible) to pull off. If Thomas's SnT contract exceeds ~$6.5m, he becomes BYC and his Knicks value in a trade becomes ~$3.25m. I just don't see the Knicks taking Moochie or AGriff + Pike for Thomas...not even with a pick thrown in.

6.5 is more than enough money for Kurt Thomas. The Knicks could do Jeff a favor and just send him over for the exception and some considerations. But that scenario only pans out in my homer mindstate.

McDyess and Rasheed are the only ones who stand out. And McDyess is a big health risk.

Would love to see Mehmet Okur as our starting PF next year.

Good call Codell - I would likewise. I doubt Detroit and Laimbeer are going to let him loose!

I agree. I don't think the Pistons are using this guy properly. He's putting up very good stats in limited minutes and he is the kind of 4 we are looking for.

San Antonio is way under the cap, there is no way that they let Ginobili walk and I don't think he would want to leave.

Mehmet Okur would be nce addition to this team if the Rockets don't pull of a trade for a PF. However, I have a feeling a trade will happen before the year is up.

I still would like Charlie Ward on this team as our backup PG.

Okur is pretty ideal for what we need in Yao's sidekick.

    Rebounds pretty well.

Is a threat to hit a long rang jumper, thus keeping his man honest and from zoning down on Yao.

    Can play inside.

The only thing that would concern me would be his ability to defend WC PFs.

Swift is restricted, but I'd take a good look at that guy.

Look at his numbers, they're eerily similar to J O'Neal's early career stats, and he's around the same age as Jermaine was back then. His per minute numbers are superb, especially shotblocking, and more importantly, his FG% is just great.

We all know he's lighting quick, and he plays hard.

I truly believe that, much like O'Neal, all this guys is lacking to make a giant step is adding some strength and improving his jumper.

He's very young too, younger than Yao. I really think he's going to become an All Star PF soon, and I really think we need one of those being in the WC.

I described a supped-up MoT. A better rebounding MoT. A better shot blocking MoT. And probably a better shooter, with better range than MoT.

I doubt Detroit will let him go. They think he’ll be all-star material. He looks like he’ll be another Brad Miller type skilled big man. Larry Brown seems really hesitant about playing young players. Okur would have much bigger numbers if Brown actually played him starter minutes. If the Rockets could trade for him though, I’m for it. Hopefully Darko will explode during the second half of the season and Okur will become expendable.

We could revamp our Team with the addition of M.OKUR[Det]. D.MASON [Mil]. F HOIBERG [Min].
E.GINOBLI [SA]. C ARROYO [Uth]. B BERRY [Sea].
We keep Yao Ming of course and Nachbar, Piatowski,Ford and Mo Taylor. Or possibly are we getting ready for the KOBY sweepstakes?

Coon FAQ (#72 ) says that BYC is defined as the greater of 1) 50% of first year of new contract, OR 2) last year of old contract, so actually the trade value would probably be higher than $3.25 depending on what Thomas is making this year, but I agree that the BYC is still a problem.

Actually, Thomas isn't worth more than the MLE, but it would be really, really nice to get him.
