I'm sure more than a few people here spent every quarter they had on Street Fighter II like I did back in the early 90's. It's one of the few video games that basically created an entire genre. Who was your character? I'll include the boss characters from the Champion Edition that came out shortly after SF2.

When I first started, I liked E Honda, mainly because he could destroy that car really quickly. Then, my favorite character became Ken. I never was the best SF2 player, but I had fun wasting all that time and money.

I can remember getting my $10 allowance in quarters every week so I could go to the arcade on the weekends and spend it all on SFII. My favorite chracter was Guile and his sonic boom.

Well, looks like 10 options is the most available in a poll, so I guess that sucks for all you boss guys! :D

My favorite Street Fighter II character was the boxer, but I cannot find his name anywhere.

Definitely Chun-Li...I could dominate anyone just using her jump kicks with her ability to bounce off the side of the screen...

In America, his name was Balrog. Overseas, he was Bison.

haha whatever. Actually, I used to be really efficient with her jumps and her midair body slams, but Guile always got the better of her in the late stages. I stuck with him ever since.

I started out with Chun Li. Her jumping forward kick initially was unstoppable in the air. You could jump and press it immediately and it would stay out forever. People discovered Guile's jumping strong punch could take it out.

I stayed with Chun Li until champion edition where i moved to Bison. His flaming torpedo/throw was cheesy but I refrained from the throwing and instead opted for the still cheesy but less cheesy flame torpedo/jab, forward torpedo corner trap.

Turbo Edition came out and I moved to Guile. I don't know why but at the time a flat top blonde with camo just seemed cool. I was never great at guile but just like him after going back to the 1st street fighter and performed the handcuffs.

Super SF2 came out and I hated it. They only had one speed and it was soooooo slow. Almost unplayable. Many of my friends felt the same way. Lord what did they do to the game we loved sooo much.

Super SF2 Turbo came out and now we were in business. I Played DeeJay. I was still on the guile trip but I wanted something fresh so I used him since he was a similar charge character style. His slide against opponents was so annoying and his low forward kick countered most normal attacks. His super punch was a good anti air but didnt' take much off because it would only hit them once. I fell in love with his super side kick though.

I played a little fei long and he was cool but even though I loved bruce lee he wasn't the one for me. I never touched t.hawk. I eventually learned how to play RYU and KEN. I'm not sure why it took me that long to get to these guys but I must admit they were pretty cool. Late bloomer I guess.

Later SF2Alpha came out and it was on. This was probably my best series and chun li was so dominant. What was better than a anti-air attack that didnt' need charging or even a joystick movement. Just a simple hard kick w/o the joystick would do a standing high high sidekick and would knock just about everyone out of the air. Occassionally trading damage but enough to annoy the crap out of everyone. The reverse kick through fireballs would help against the fireball brothers and the super sidekick aka deejay was awesome.

I eventually moved away from chun li in alpha 2 and became a ryu master. I was a pretty honorable fighter and still had not resorted to throwing but after an several combats with a certain fighter who used the tactic multiple times I figured it was time to go up the mountain to learn the art. Once I came down the mountain I was unstoppable. I ruled the UH rec center for a long time to come and even though there were a few upsets here and there I was locally feared by the community.

I moved on with my old school skills and tried to conquer the the world of x-men vs street fighter and marvel vs capcom and was successful at first with my non-stop 3-4 hit combos but eventually my time had passed. I had to pass the torch on. I refused though and opted to blast the playability of these games, but secretly enjoying them at home on my PS and PS2.

Well that's my history. I hope you enjoyed it. If you've come this far, you TOO have no life like me. :p

I went to a military school and we had SFII in the rec room. There were few who could beat me and virtually no one who could beat me with any consistancy. I was good enough with all of the characters, but Ryu and I owned.

    Great poll.

I voted for Blanka although I like E.Honda almost equally. Blanka had a great drop kick.

P.S: Ken/Ryu users are lemmings! I hate those guys.

yeah you needed it because your roll could be taken out with a simple jab.

Anyone remember when SF first came out on nintendo the jab would take off 1/5th of blanka's health?

I was terrible at learning the moves of most of the players, so thus I always picked E. Honda.

    Guile.

When my brother and I played on SNES, we used to fight over who got to play Guile. The loser usually went with Chun-Li.
