I just want to know who orchestrated the two championships, before we gave it to an assistant coach who either can't scout talent or doesn't have any working for him in the organization.

How can this guy get a pass the last 8 years?

I think it was Steve Patterson, the current Trailblazers GM. I'm not sure though.

Steve Patterson - the person who built the nucleus of the championship teams.

We need a young Otis Thorpe.

Actually, the GM before Carroll Dawson was Bob Weinhauer.

What the rockets need is a GM that knows how to get some real players in here for change. I'm tired of hearing all this crap about everybody wants to play for the rockets. That should be re-worded to say "Every Scrub plays for the Rockets"

Weinhauer was VP of basketball operations. After Patterson left we didn't have a traditional structure in our front office. Rudy T had a good deal of say in all personell moves, more than anyone else. Les Alexander had alot of input too. Even today we don't have a traditional setup, and JVG has significant say in who's on the roster. To blame CD alone for failures, or give him all the credit for the successes, is shortsighted.

Don Cheaney has been given a lot of credit for getting the talent for the two championship teams. Rudy made them mesh and got the chemistry right....

The Rockets won the first championship with the bare minimum. They bought Vernon Maxwell for 25k. Kenny Smith was out of the league like two years later. Rudy T came in, wanted Mario Elie, Horry, and Cassell, and that's what pushed them over the hump. Hakeem may have been able to win one sooner with better players around him.

Too bad we didn't get Drexler and Jordan to play with him early on, and that could of happened.
