I just realized that it has been 37 years since something like this has happened, let alone it happened to our "crippled" Rockets team.

Historic items that "were" occuring during the last streak:

    Vietnam War was still ongoing
    Richard Nixon was President
Sanford and Son hasn't even aired
Space Shuttle was still a theory
Highest payed athlete signs for $200,000 (Hank Aaron)
    M*A*S*H* hasn't even aired

Historic events that have occured since:

    1974: Richard Nixon Resigns
    1975: Apple computer introduced
    1979: Three Mile Island
    1980: Iran Hostage Crisis
    1981: Reagan assassination attempt
    1986: Shuttle Challenger explodes
    1987: Libya debacle
    1989: Berlin wall comes down

I know there are several other things, but I posted this thread to show how truly significant this run has been. Hell, I've seen some dominant teams in my day, but I've never seen a team win twenty in a row.

I went through it all. The last few decades have been a wild ride, but I missed the Reformation, the American Civil War, and the Great Depression.

I voted no I wasn't alive... but I do know what Iran-Contra was! Does that give me brownie points?

    Actually, I voted no.

The Beatles broke up less than one year prior to the last streak.

I'm not good with numbers... Try these:

The Houston Rockets truly have entered rarefied air. How rare? Only three teams in NBA history have won at least 20 games in a row. The Rockets joined that group last night with their 83-75 win over the Hawks in Atlanta Wednesday night.

What makes the 2007-08 Rockets much different from the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers (33 games), and the 1970-71 Milwaukee Bucks (20 games) is that those teams were expected to win the championship — and did so. Meanwhile, Houston — even with this lengthy winning streak — has been written off by many as a team that cannot even make it to the Finals, especially now that it has lost all-star centre Yao Ming for the season.

So, in a salute to the truly amazing and unbelievable stretch from a team that was just 24-20 before it defeated Golden State on Jan. 29, here is a list of notable streak-related numbers the Rockets have posted in that time:

1 Wins needed to surpass the 1970-71 Bucks for second-longest winning streak in league history.

2 Smallest margin of victory (Feb. 13 vs. Sacramento).

3 Current standing in the Western Conference race.

4 Number of times Tracy McGrady had a 30-point game during the streak (11 overall).

5 Different leading scorers for the Rockets during the streak (Yao, McGrady, Carl Landry, Luther Head, Rafer Alston).

6 Wins in the month of March.

7 Road wins during the streak.

8 Wins without Yao in lineup.

    9 Wins vs. West teams.

10 Consecutive double-digit wins, which ended last night.

11 Times Houston has scored more than 100 points.

12 Number of times McGrady has led the team in scoring during the streak.

    13 Number of double-digit wins.

14 Wins needed to surpass the 1971-72 Lakers for the league’s longest win streak.

15 Points per game Alston has averaged during the streak.

16 The date this month (Sunday) of the Rockets’ matchup with the West-leading Lakers

17 Number of opponents Houston has held to under 100 points (Miami scored 100 points on Feb. 21 to keep the Rockets from reeling off 18 straight such performances).

18 Number of games remaining in the regular season for Houston.

19 Number of games Alston has scored at least one three-pointer during the streak. (He failed in the third game, Feb. 2)

    20 Consecutive wins.

I was an adult, Fatty. It wasn't the Rockets, so this is a thousand times greater.

    (btw, I voted against Nixon!)
