If Leon Powe is available ....GET HIM!!! He declared for the draft this week. Powe is a rebound magnet just like Hayes a good mid range shooter and great post up moves.. will be a star....

i would be hesitant due to his multiple surgically repaired left knee and because he's only 6'8. the knee has only held up for one year. plus he's probably gonna be a bit undersized to play the 4 in the pros.

also i dont really see how he could help us, or any NBA team in the next few years at least...

First round: Shelden Williams. An excellent defensive player and the most polished PF in the draft. He's a warrior that could help immediately. If the Rockets draft him,Swift and Howard can be used in a trade for, let's say,Mo Peterson or Corey Magette.
Second round: Kevin Pittsnogle or Dee Brown. It would be great to have a big man who has range, but also to have a lightning quick PG to back up Rafer

Therein lies the problem with all the "let's draft a PF" scenarios. Who's going to take Swift or Howard after this season? What's a plausible trade that involves either of them?

Trade out of the Lotter for 2 latter first round picks.

Take JJ Reddick and Kevin Pittsnogle in the 1st round.

Then add P.J. Tucker with the second round pick.

I know everyone wants a 2 or a 4, but I would draft Randy Foye. He’ll probably be the most talented scorer left on the board once it’s the Rockets turn, and that’s what this team desperately needs most, players that can put the ball in the hole. I like how aggressive he is at attacking the basket, his ability to finish at the basket, and his mid-range jumper (something the guards on this team really lack). His game and his leader mentality reminds me a bit of Dwayne Wade when he was at Marquette.

I've been going back and forth as to what I wish our picks to be...

one, for certain, is Pittsnogle--- he's the ideal range-shooting 4 who rebounds well...

also, if we can somehow acquire someone like a Bonzi Wells or Jumaine Jones, then I'd love to see our first-rounder go to a PG...

No one around here has talked much about him, but I would not be opposed to taking Foye either. He'll probably end up being a scoring PG, but the guy can definately score with the best of them. He'll probably be the most talented guy available at our spot, assuming he's available.

Yeh, I like Foye, a physical guard who reminds me of Billups a little. We dont have much offensive options outside of Yao and Tmac so i'd like to see him being our third scorer.

And about Leon Powe, I remember him and Lebron being one of the top 2 players in their class in high school. In SLAM magazine i remember how lebron kept talking about how good Leon Powe is. I also read an espn comparison that he is a more athletic Ike Diogu....i'd take that anyday.

I wouldn't consider Shelden a polished player and I seriously doubt that his defensive skill set will translate over to the league. College big men are so hard to judge because they rarely face anyone with their size and strength (look at Okafor he was suppose to this great defensive player and he's pretty average). His offensive moves consist of pushing around some 6-9 stiff and never shooting a face up shot outside of 10 feet ... he has a non-existent face up game. He won't be able to push around NBA bigs, so then what will he do?

Oh and Leon Powe wasn't in the top 2 of the class of 2003. He wasn't even in the top 2 power forwards. The consensus top 2 of that class were Lebron and Deng. Powe was anywhere from 10-20.

if brandon roy is gone, i would definitely draft shelden williams. Despite duke's poor performance in the March Madness, this guy still putted up big #s like 20 and 10 in the tournament. The only difference i see between him and Emaka Okafor is the Duke 2003 team won the NCAA championship. To me, Williams and Okafor are equal in abillities.

For the second round, i wouldn't mind drafting Dee Brown, since JVG said we need 3 pgs. Hassan Adams is also a good option, i really like his energy. And Pittsnogle, just love his shooting touch. maybe we can trade juwan to NY for a bad contract, either Richardson or Jamal Crawford. And swift maybe we can trade him for a future draft pick, cuz he is not going to be anything.

If I'm the Rockets I'm looking at either Roy or Carney. You can probably throw Gay in there as well.

Wow, I'm a Cal alum and huge Leon "The Show" Powe fan, but even I wouldn't root for the Rockets to take him in first round. And I'd only want us to take him in the second round if perimeter players like Gansey and Novak weren't available (I also like Christian Maraker out of Pacific).

Having said that, I think Powe could be a solid pro someday if he stays for a year (he hasn't signed with an agent) and develops a game beyond the paint. He's probably too undersized to dominate at the 4 in the pros. While listed at 6'8", most people think he's actually closer to 6'6 1/2".

Powe is an absolute beast around the basket, though. He has put up pretty good numbers against NBA-sized power forwards and doesn't give up much on the defensive end against them. (ALthough I could see a Garnett or Duncan eating him alive.) Lastly, nobody wants to win or plays harder than Leon Powe. NBA fans (and coaches) will love him.

Also, do a Google search and read about this background. He's had very, very difficult times as a kid and is now only 30 credits away from a Cal degree and on the doorstep of an NBA career through sheer hard work and fortitude. Just a great, great "kid" who we Cal fans are proud to call a Golden Bear.

A few things to clear up about Leon, though:

The knee is fine. He only declared for the draft after doctors examined the knee and declared it more or less fully healed -- news that will please NBA GMs. Also, if you watched him this year, he had the same explosion he had in high school. The difference between this year and his freshman year in terms of the knee's strength was night and day.

He was pretty much a top 10 recruit across the board, not 10-20. He was not, however, the top PF prospect that year.

Either Shelden Williams or Brandon Roy. I'd take Roy if he is still available at #8, not likely though. So We will see a frontcourt of Yao, Williams and Tmac in our championship years. :)

    Go Rockets!

i think he would be a great defender on this team, especially considering Stro and Juwan. You are right about his face up offense, but he could develop a nice jumpshot.Landlord is 6-9 and 245 lbs and has a 7-2 wingspan and he is very strong,so i think he would do pretty well with the NBA bigs.I think he would do a great job helping yao,he would be a defensive presence for sure. And he's like Emeka,so who wouldn't mind to have an Emeka Okafor on his team???
I suppose that Roy would be gone by the time we pick, hell he would be a great pick.
I like Carney but we need a proven consistent guy who can help immediately, and I don't think Carney would do well on this team, plus he plays the same positions that T-Mac plays.
So the safest pick at #8 would be Shelden. If we draft him then we will be overloaded at PF and then we must trade stro and/or JH but they have no trade value really. It's going to be hard to trade JH because of his contract and age,but it is possible. As for Stro,if we aren't able to offer a good deal for Mo Peterson or Magette,we could send him to NO for JR Smith. No doubts that JR is a better player than stro but stro would do great in a fast paced offense then a halfcourt that we play. And there were rumors that PJ brown is gonna retire this summer so they need a big guy,and we could get JR for him easily because the NO coach doesnt like JR and they had problems this year.
