http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/college/news/2002/12/07/diamond_blackshear/ the link above goes to an article on Ronald Blackshear, a 6 foot 5 shooting guard and one of the best shooters in the country. somewhat comparable to wesley person. the guy is also projected as an early 2nd round pick on nbadraft.net so hopefully with some luck, the rockets might have the chance to draft him. hopefully, they don't do anything stupid like in recent drafts, like taking jason collier over desmond mason. if they get him in the 2nd round, it'll be like a repeat of the steal they got in cuttino mobley, only this guy probably shoots better. some of the reasons why you would draft him: "In one game against Akron, he tied an NCAA record by hitting 11 straight 3-pointers, on his way to 14 total and a 44-point night. " "Rufus McDuffie, told The Charleston Gazette that his former pupil "has one of the best shots I've ever seen, and that includes college and NBA players." "shooting 45.6 percent from beyond the arc "
hope the rockets make a draft day trade for carmelo anthony. cause there's nothing to look forward to next season if the rockets don't change those ugly uniforms.
where do we pick? I say Luke Ridnour if he leaves college and if he's available. A smart and savvy player that reminds me a lot of Steve Nash.
There is absolutely no way the Rox can acquire Luke Ridnour in the second round of the draft. He's a lottery guy, and touted as a top 2 or 3 point guard in this crop (considering TJ Ford comes out).
1) Nachbar was a #15 pick and played 77 total minutes in 82 games. 2) Mobley plays 41+ mpg. 3) Francis plays 3 to 5 mpg at SG. 4) The Rockets as a team are the second youngest. 5) To my knowledge, the Rockets (who will not pick up an option year for Collier) have 8 players under contract for 2003-2004. Let's say they re-sign only 1 of Morris, Hawkins or Maddox - that's 9 contracts. If the Rockets trade Rice, they will likely receive 2 contracts in return (due to the need to balance Rice's $9+m). That's 10 contracts. The Rockets need some vet leadership and proven productivity...the MLE for such a player is 11 contracts. No offense, but with the above as a backdrop I find it hard to get excited about who the Rox may pick in the second round...especially at the SG position.
i say we draft some vets.. oh yeah you cant draft vets... ok i dont care who we draft but we better get some more vets.... see ya rice
I'd rather take Uche Nsonwu-Amadi,a tough mature rebounding PF compared to Charles Oakley,in the second round than a SG that average 1.6 APG!!We already have Cat and that's more than enough!! Now if u absolutly want a good SF/SG,check out Boris Diaw(not good stats, good believe me he's better than that!) ALA
Let's draft another Boki and sit his ass for 82 games. Will never understand why RT didn't let him "get his feet wet" in the NBA this year. Either it was a wasted pick, or a mindless decision to sit him. Rice's injuries and disappearing acts would have been great opportunities to give him some PT. Wonder what went thru his head as he watched, and watched, and waited, and watched Just add this to my long list of frustrations this year. D R
Dallas, on game day he may watched and watched, but don't you think he was on the floor in practice? He's been learning the NBA game all year. The coaches have to see something in him to make comments like "he's next years #1 draft pick". On the other hand, given our track record with 15th picks, I don't know why your surorised he couldn't break into the roatation. j
1.6 assists per game from a shooting guard is ok if he's a "catch and shoot" shooter like Person. That kind of player completes assists from the passers and that's what we need , not Cuttino "YOW ME" Mobley who catches, dribbles down to 3 seconds, then jacks up a terrible shot or passes to someone else who doesn't have a shot so that person gets the turnover. j
silent j, One can only learn so much from watching. We've had some great picks at 15 or above: Cassell, Mobley, Horry, Dickerson to name a few, so I don't buy your comment. My point is, why wasn't he allowed to get enough PT so that this year wasn't a total waste??? Watching and practice is one thing............ D R
If Rudy sticks to what he said, next year we should be trying to continue to do the "motion offense" thing...but then again I might be day dreaming here... Hope not! ALA
Kent Williams from Southern Illinois University is a good guard. Maybe its because I went to SIU. He probably wont get drafted, but he is a good player.
Horry and Casell were both first round picks. Who can forget Robert Horry. Everybody and his dog wanted the Rockets to draft Harold "Baby Jordan" Miner. After the Rockets took Horry, Miami wasted no time taking Miner. The cameras showed the Heat draft table and they had this smug look on their face like they just robbed a Brinks truck. Later that night, Steve Patterson was on every television station defending the pick saying he wouldn't draft a college PG who averaged 1 assist per game.
I think the Rockets should draftf Kyle Korver. Can rebound and is a pure shooter. Gives Rockets much more of a three-point threat than they have now.
the rockets definitely need a shooting guard. mobley has to be exhausted playing 48 minutes almost every night. and you saw what happened when mobley injured his finger right.
