Seriously - what is going on with this guy this year?

13 made 3 pointers so far on the season - that's a career high for 3 pointers made in a season for him already

If he makes 7 more this season, then he has equalled his previous 4 seasons worth....

Making Steve Kerr look like a genius.

Definitely NOT because he practiced his 3 point shot in the offseason. :D

Heh... the Blazers playres/front office/coaches are probably thinking "Where the hell was that shot last year? The fool couldn't make 20 footers when we needed him to against the Rockets."

Interesting that you make this thread considering the whole Frye vs. Andersen debate leebigez had with another poster. I know you are really high on Andersen.

How would you compare the two players 3 games in? Obviously Frye is really hot and obviously Andersen will improve some as he learns what he can do in this league. Who seems like they will be better over the course of a full season and beyond?

Nash is a great passer but it isn't him, it's the system. The same system that makes Nash himself look great, he didn't miraculously become a stud at 30. That floor being spread so much has to be a dream come true for a softy like Frye.

Andersen is a better passer and has a far better Basketball IQ.

Would Frye fit in our system? maybe, but he would have more turnovers too.

I'd love to have Frye but we got Andersen.

or it's the system. you choose. al harrington is having career years in the same type of system.

fast paced -> lots of open opportunities -> lots of open shots.

He figured he couldn't bang in the paint like a real center, so he's going to be a girly man like Okur and play on the perimeter like my mom.

I'm not "really high" on Andersen - I just don't think he's total crap!

Ask me 3 games ago, and I'd tell you that Andersen is a far more competent basketball player than Frye.
Amazing the difference a bit of space to shoot freely can make! Frye is looking like a magnificent pickup (so far) - worth noting that the Suns have played 3 marginal defensive teams - but even still, I'm surprised by Frye.

Personally, I'd rather have Andersen on the squad over Frye (who isn't going to shoot 65% from downtown the whole season) - I think Andersen is tougher and a better rebounder. But the confidence Frye MUST be getting from these opening games might just do wonders for his development!

True - but you don't just LEARN a 3 point shot all of a sudden.... Frye always had range to about 20' - but wasn't an elite shooter. To extend himself beyond the 3 line SO MUCH in one off-season is truly incredible.

There's a whole stack of swingmen/ point guards who would LOVE to bottle some of that improvement and use it themselves.

I just think it's an amazing transformation.

Here is what i said is that if the rockets are looking to get younger, bigger, and a pick and pop guy, frye was the guy over anderson. Reason is, frye at least has some history of doing it in the nba. I had debates because i don't think scola, landry,or hayes would get much time in portland on that roster. I never said they wern't better than him, but sometimes you get caught in a numbers game with high draft picks and get inconsistent minutes. Frye wont continue to shoot as well as he is now, but for me, it was a chance to get a young big that could start this year and give you leverage vs scola next yr. He's actually the kind of guy we've been discussin playing next to yao. A tall rangy guy with decent quickness. If frye is playing with yao, yao would never see fronting defense. Frye playing this yr does just what he's doing now. I know i see things some of you don't. thats just my gift. :D

It IS Nash. You can have the most open, free-wheeling, shooter-friendly system in the world, but it doesn't mean diddly if you don't have a great point guard with great vision who understands how and when to get the ball to people.

    Nash makes a huge difference.

Which is exactly why a guy like Von Wafer would've killed in Adelman's system this season.

You're insulting Okur comparing Frye to him. Okur is pretty good defensively and getting boards. Frye is just soft all around.

Do me a favor and use your "gift" to explain to me how having Frye in the picture would erase the possibility (or likelihood) of teams continuing to front Yao. ;)

Scola, in theory, is a practical option to help combat the fronting defense given his ability to hit the 15-20 footer and help space out the floor. Are you suggesting that merely because Frye has 3-pt range teams will be afraid to front Yao? That's what it sounds like to me. We all know the basics of a fronting defense and how to beat it (space out the floor, reverse the ball weakside, backdoor screens/cuts by wings, etc. -- in addition to Yao's core responsibilities of sealing off his defender and punishing teams on the offensive glass). So where does Frye fit into that picture? Sure, he helps space the floor and given that the weakside defender hitting Yao on the typical one-two-punch that he deals with is typically the opposing four -- but does that extra 3-5 feet the defender has to travel between helping on Yao and respecting Frye's range REALLY help to the degree you speak of? Help me out here because i'm really failing to see where Frye fits into this picture.

Considering that the Rockets looking to play a more Phoenix-style offense this year (notice all the 3-point attempts?), Frye could have been a nice addition. I'm impressed so far.
