well we have to face that the rockets are more than likely be a lottery team this year. With all the injuries and the fact that stevie is out every other game with migraines doesnt help our cause at all. We may not be one of the top 5 teams in the draft record wise but I see the rockets getting more of a 6-10 pick with the way they are playing. With that said who should the rockets get? I think if he is coming out the and available the rockets should try to get Stanford's Casey Jacobsen. A deadly shooter that can drive and play decent defense too. He is bigger than mobley and can play better defense on the bigger guards in the league. Also he is a good rebounder and passer and is a smart player too. I think he would be a good fit for this team *if* he is avaible when the rockets pick. I would even say trade mobley + our pick in hopes to get him
Jacobson probably won't come out this season and even then isn't a lottery pick. And to trade the Rockets pick and Mobley for him? You've got to be kidding me. That makes absolutely no sense. Much has been discussed on this topic in the College forum, accessible from the main BBS page. In my opinion, though, the Rockets should go for the best player available in the draft, even if it's Jason Williams. Then, if the Rockets end up with a point guard or even a power forward, trade them for a couple of high picks for for a lower pick and a proven veteran. This team has the impact players, all that needs to be done is get healthy, improve the bench, and shore up the middle. One of the centers in the draft (like Marcus or Ming) would help, but a young veteran like LaFrentz may help more. Depends on the trade/offer.
Admin's gonna move this thread, but I'll just say, we grab the most coveted player left on the board and sign-and-trade him. No more grooming of college/high school kids. Not for a few years, anyway.
The Rockets need post players and there will be few in the draft that may have an impact within the next 2 years. The two big guys that may be available are Yao Ming and Chris Marcus. I haven't seen Ming play in awhile and Marcus I saw last year. A better option is to try and get Malik Rose in free agency. He's a tough rebounder, scrapper, defender that we are missing in the front court. And he might be in the right price range for us.
Once again, when bringing up the Rockets trading Mobley, you have to remember that if Mobley leaves, its gives Francis less of a reason to stick around. That's something that needs to be considered.
No its not. What are you all so worried about ? Francis gets max extension, more than any other team can offer, with Rockets. Where would Francis go if he were so p.o.'d they traded Mobely (assuming the trade is a complete bust and the new guy cannot play in any way with Francis - worst case)? What teams have that kind of cap room for a free agent? Which of those teams would spend that kind of cap money on a pg, which is not usually a max contract position ? I think Mobes is a very good player, but I would trade him for a better player, esp a frontcourt player, in a heartbeat. I don't trade him for junk - its a compliment that I think you can get a very good player in return, in a pack with some of our dead weight or expiring contracts or value talent or picks. I'd rather get that other frontcourt player another way and keep Mobes, too...but if the deal is out there for shaq , you gotta grab that. Otis Thorpe was a very good player too - he made the allstar team, once; he battled every night, was very valuable - but he wasn't Clyde Drexler. Cylde came in a ran that team with savvy, veteran leadership and willed it to the second championship. This team could use a heady, smart, tough guy like that, too. EG can be that, but it takes a few years in the league to develop.
Um..how about the Wizards? I think they only have 8 million to spend this summer, but they're going to have so much cap-space free in the summer of 2003 its not even funny. And yes, they could definitely use a point guard.
I wouldn't trade Mobley and our pick for anything less than a star frontcourt player like Duncan or McGrady.
Are there any 3's out there in the Shawn Marion style of playing, but a little less rebound attentive and slightly better ballhandlers/shooters? I want someone with a little bulk. And if no one is heads and shoulders above the rest, I take the best defensive player, no doubt about it. This team needs defense mroe than anything else.
Unless Ming is still on the board, D. Gooden, Q. Woods, and R. Grizzard are our most obvious choices for our first pick. We really need another scorer on the team from the three spot as well as a good defensive stopper. With our secound pick, we should really take a PG. My first choice would be Kirk Hinrich. He's a really good passer and an even better shooter, not to mention a coach's son.. We need some stability at that position when Stevie goes down and Moochie doesn't provide any. Kirk would be an excellent addition to this team because of his good leadership and 45% shooting from behind the 3. He comes from a good b-ball system in Kansas and runs the #2 school in the country. If he's gone, Dan Dickau would be a good sub. Our secound rounder should be a center, maybe Chris Christofferson out of Oregon.
