I see the end of the line for CD... or is that the end of a rope?

Anyway, who would you all like to nominate to take his place? Go outside the organization? Bring in Rudy T? Give Scott Layden another chance? Just kidding. John Stockton? Doc Rivers?

Maybe we can trade CD for Steve Patterson. He built our first championship contender, didn't he (well added pieces, at least)?

Messers Patterson and Alexander were water and oil, and the owner canned SP. Besides, SP is a 'president-type', not player pwersonnel type.

Considering the Rox are still a playoff team and CD recently signed a multi-year contract extension, I'd say he's not going anywhere for awhile.

One of Patterson's moves was bringing over talented CBA players, like Mario Elie. At the time, other organizations laughed at Patterson. It turned out that Mario Elie was a valuable role player to the championship team.

Didn't he just sign a two-year extension? Techniclly that is multi-year... how far out into the future does that take him: this and next year or through 2008?!?!

The exact term were undisclosed. Given this is Dawson's 8th season, a two year extensionwould be a reasonable assumption. Perhaps 3 to match Van Gundy's 4 year deal.

A stoned teenager could make better personnel decisions than CD...From top the bottom, the Rockets are a complete failure...

CD isn't the ultimate decision maker when it comes to players. You'd have to fire CD, Rudy (that happened), the entire scouting staff (Joe Ash left), Rudy's entire staff (that pretty much happened) and Les Alexander.

Comparing it to a band, it would be the equivalent of the Beatles firing Ringo. Sure, he wrote a few songs - mostly bad - and he was an integral part of creating the Beatles sound, but, chances are, they could survive without him. It's not like replacing Lennon or McCartney.

    (no offense ima_drummer! :D )

I agree that there have been some horrendous decisions made, but firing CD won't solve any problems. If CD was the lynch pin in critical personnel decisions, we would be in trouble. He's not.

As for Patterson, nevermind the guy just signed a deal with Portland. He is the son of the guy Les bought the team from. Les fired Steve and his entire staff and really pissed off both father and son. Patterson went on to work for Chuck Watson at the Aeros and stuck it to Les with the Compaq Center lease issues as often as possible.

I'm guessing Patterson won't be GM'ing the Rockets as long as Les is the owner.

These were not Patterson's moves, they were Rudy T's moves. Kenny Smith, Vernon Maxwell, and Otis Thorpe were Patterson moves. His drafts were not good. Rudy moves started with Horry.

How about prying Pat Riley away from the Heat organization? He'd already have an established team in Houston to work with.....might be a good fit.

CD didn't get arrested for pot, check into a rehab/mental program, slap some chick around and shoot at her, issue a restrictive bond, fail to sign Posey, etc. etc.

He may not be the best, but a lot of the troubles weren't caused by him...
