Of course it should be the coaches, so why are Mobley and Francis trying to undercut the coaches decisions.

Could it be that Doc Rocket was right, and that the Rockets are indeed going to take Ming?

It is my opinion that I trust Rudy and CD more in evaluating talent than Mobley and Francis. Let's look at the records:

    Rudy and CD
Best pick in no particular order
    1. Horry (all time clutch player)
    2. Cassell (with a 20+ first round pick)
    3. Dickerson (1/2 of the francis in return)
    4. Harrington (the other 1/2 of the francis return)
    5. Mobley (Clippers wanted him for Odom, enough said)
    6. Thomas (awsomer performer)

    Bad drafts:
    1. Rhodes (could play defense and nothing more)
    2. Collier (may still blossom with time)
    3. Langhi (may stil blossom, but outlook unlikley)
    4. Swikker (7'4" player who disappeared)
    5. Drew (worst pick the Rockets ever made)
    6. Turkcan (at least it got us Terrence Morris, a francis guy)

    Trades for:
    1. Drexler
    2. Barkley

    Francis
    1. Terrence Morris (a total dud)

    Mobley
has done a good job until this year of staying out of politics.

CD and Rudy have pulled some major talent from the draft. Sure they've had their busts. But the only major bust has been Drew. The rest of the guys were 2nd rounders or late first rounders. Let's see what Rudy and CD can do with the 1st pick. If they can trade it to improve the team, that rocks. But, why do the players feel they have to strong arm management into selecting or getting whom they want on the team.

We all know who gets the blame if the Rockets don't win. It's the Coaches head, and the GM's job. What do the players say in those situations, nothing. All they do is put their tail between their legs and blame it all on the coach.

The coaches and GM are there for a reason - personnel decisions - and the players are there to play. Historically, players have been bad decision makers, tending to bring in their cronies - I've seen it with Penny Hardaway especially, forcing the Magic's hand in firing Brian Hill, drafting David Vaughn, signing Elliot Perry, and so on.

The best moves for a franchise always come from the people put in charge of making those moves.

Players talk about wanting another player all the time. Players go out recruiting other players all the time. Just because Mobley or Francis say something on TV doesn't mean they have any pull. Mobley and Francis doesn't have any more pull then any other player in the league. I don't see them strong arming them. I haven't heard Francis or Mobley saying they would leave or wouldn't sign if the Rockets didn't trade for Odom. Relax, what Mobley and Francis says and does I'm pretty sure has very little to do with what management plans to do.

I know when Jordan,Magic, and Bird were in their prime, the gms probably ask them what they thought about this player or that player, but the decision was up to mgmt. Now if these guys were on those guys level, mgmt migh consider it, but neither of these guys are even close. When the Lakers decided to trade Norm because it would give Magic total control ofthe team, they probably asked him since he and Norm were good together, but thats Magic Johnson. In 82, i don't they wentto magic and say, doyou wat worthy or dominique. They decided to take the player best for their team even though Nique wound up scoring over 25,000 pts. Its strictly Rudy and CD calls and they wouldn't go through all this to trade the pick. If they wanta personal workout, there are plenty of planes that go to china.
