i love baggy. infact today i was hoping they'd pinch hit with him instead of orlando...but you can't go against lamb. bags just can't do it right now. maybe if lamb completely sucks game 1...you think about baggy in game 2. but lamb has been a legit hitter in the playoffs. and you need all the power you can get.

Bagwell is enough of a veteran to know if he can help the team. Without seeing what he is doing at batting practice I can't make the call. I'll go with whatever Garner decides.

I say If Lamb is playing then Burke should DH and vice vera

I think they are hitting better than Bagwell can right now.

Play Lamb until he goes 0-fer in game 6.. then put in Bagwell for game 7, who crushes the game winning homer in the bottom of the 9th..

i think bagwell has to dh atleast one game. he's shown he's capable of getting base hits and with all he's done for this franchise he DESERVES to play a full world series game in some capacity. at the minimum i don't think he hurts you, though burke and lamb are swinging it.

According to what I heard, Baggy lobbied pretty hard for consideration Jacking 5 in a row in BP.

Course its just BP, but i've gotten to see him take BP a lot since his return, and thats the first I have heard of the return of his power stroke.

Course my concern would be that bombs of 60 mph batting practice fare would translate to warning track fly balls against the good stuff.

I say he at least should get a start in a game in Houston. If he would jack one in Houston, the place would explode.

They don't have DH when it switches back to the NL park.

To me, you have to play Baggy atleast one game. Mike Lamb is much better, but you have to give Bags a chance to be a part of this after everything he has meant to this franchise. He can atleast draw walks still.

Agreed. Bags has put in his time and deserves at least one game at DH. I personally think that he'll go 1 for 3 with a single and a walk in his first game. He's a veteran and will make the most of the shot he gets.

aside from the obvious sentimental reasons, i believe bagwell should DH because he is still one our most patient and disciplined hitters. sure, at this point in time, mike lamb probably has more power in his swing, but i believe bagwell is still better in terms of having a quality at-bat. but why not have both?

i say this is the lineup:

    2b biggio
    cf taveras/burke
    lf berkman
    3b ensberg
    1b lamb
    dh bagwell
    rf lane
    c ausmus
    ss everett

i put bags in front of lane because even though he's been swinging the bat fairly well, i still feel like he's taking an all-or-nothing type of swing. he is much more likely to strike out with runners in scoring position than bagwell.

i think burke has cooled off a little bit, but whatever garner decides is cool with me.

I believe Jeff Bagwell has earned the right to start at DH, at least in the 1st game.

No Berkman as an option.

Berkman should DH so the Astros can play Lamb, Burke, and Taveras for better defense.

    Biggio 2B
    Burke LF
    Berkman DH
    Ensberg 3B
    Lamb 1B
    Lane RF
    Ausmus C
    Everett SS
    Taveras CF

Not that this means anything, but after we clinched the wild card Purpura was asked if Bagwell was gonna be on the active roster:

"There's no doubt. Of Course. He's going to be our DH in the World Series :) "

As much as Mike Lamb/Burke have been doing well... I can't not let Baggy be DH. He's meant so much for this organization for so long, he battled his way back -- he deserves it IMO.

Bagwell may deserve to play DH based on his tenure, but Mike Lamb is swinging the bat way too well right now. I would give him maybe one game.

Lamb will get his starts in the series and Palmeiro is your first bat off the bench, but Bagwell is our most disciplined hitter outside of Fat Elvis. Yes, there are many sentimental issues clouding the subject but the very real fact of the matter is Bagwell has been batting well since his surgery and his history still scares pitchers.
