J/K....The real point of this thread is to examine one aspect of the culture involving Alaskan Native Americans...It's all about respecting differences... p.s. read the commentary for great back and forth action... http://newsminer.com/news/2008/mar/28/polar-bear-killed-fort-yukon/ ...Forget that,....the real point of this thread is how the little-bitty .22 on steroids bullet is underestimated...
Congrats on killing a bear cub fellas... _________ A polar bear ... was killed later in the day because of safety concerns. The men tracked the bear three miles out of town to the Porcupine River, where it moved onto a river island. “It’s a super interesting bear no matter what it turns out to be.” [DEAD] “Our oldest elder, Rosalie Joseph, 102, passed away. She must have some powerful medicine to bring a polar bear to us.” [SO WE COULD KILL IT]
HEY...!!!11111 Us white people took thier land. The least we can do for Natives is let them shoot other similar, whiteish things to appease thier resentment.
I say a .223 is wimpy, and I kid you not. I wish to discuss rifle bores, and not politics. Accordingly, I giveth this post te label of WRONG FORUM.
I could take this time to tell you about all the news stories I saw when I spent a week in Alaska about hikers killed in bear attacks...that when bears know there is food in a village, they will keep coming back, etc etc...but it seems to me that you would either not believe it or would ignore it completely.
I'm going to lay you a huge bet that those bears you read about are URSUS ARCTOS and not URSUS MARITIMUS........a HUGE bet. Name your terms.
Actually, the bears I read about were just outside of Anchorage, which means they were brown bears. The locals that I talked to said that the polar bears further north were dangerous, but not viscious. Apparently they mean no harm, but get in the way of them going for food, and bad things can happen.
