last game of the 93 season, spurs tip in counted way after the buzzer sounded, rockets lose in ot, and lose the homecourt. still makes ppl i know mad when we talk about the old days.....
Who remember's the Rockets vs. Jazz, in 97 or 98... We had just come off of a tough series with the Supersonics, in which Drexler had won one game with a baseline jumper to end it, and Eddie Johnson had won another... Eddie Johnson, of course, made that 3 to win game 6 and tie it up in that series against the Jazz, and at the end of game 7, the Rockets were up by 2, and someone left John Stockton open and he hit a 3-pointer to end it for the Rockets. That was supposed to be our championship team folks...Hakeem, Barkley, Drexler...ahh the good old days
drexler should have just held the ball till the clock ended.. but it was unpredictable *sigh* .... memories..
I'm pretty sure Stockton hit his tackle-aided three in game six. EJ made his in game 5. Not that it really matters, it's still the sorest ( is that a word) spot in my history as a Rockets fan.
Eddie Johnson hit that game winning shot in game 4 if i remember correctly. Utah then went back to the Delta Center and won game 5. Then Stockton hit that 3 pointer at the buzzer in Game 6 in houston. Why did yall have to bring that up?
Im glad stockton and malone didnt get a championship ring...now who's gona stop Malone this season...
I literally cried after that game, it was such an emotion-draining series, every game was exciting...I think as Houston fans, we were witness to the single greatest 2 series of playoff history...granted the outcome wasn't what we wanted, but it was great basketball...
If we would have won that game, we would have beaten the Sonics at home in game 7. We would have coasted into the finals, and given how we played the Bulls back then, we would have beaten them, too. But then MJ would have never quit to go play baseball, and would have come back the next year and mopped the floor with us. And again in 95, just for spite. And so by losing one title, we got two more, even if there is an asterisk next to both of them in the record books. And then down the road, we would have never got Yao (it would take several pages to make the historical contection, but I'm sure its there). So once again, don't ask to change history (unless you can go back in time and do the 1984 trade with Portland of Ralph for Drexler and their #2 pick).
The whole comaq cetner was DEAD quiet!!! I was at the tv, an dwas like 8 back then. I was yelling at my dad that i say .6 sec left!!! I just was in denial and for 2 weeks drew hate pictures of stockton...
Don't forget that Malone gave a bearhug to Clyde on that last possession preventing him to get back on defense.
I remember that I was working in a sportsbook at a small casino outside Vegas when the Rockets lost to the Jazz. I was so pissed I turned off every TV in the book and told the patrons to leave. Some said they were going to complain to the Casino manager and I told them to go ahead " I don't work for him". the sportsbook I worked for only rented space from his casino. I was transfered to another casino 2 weeks later. when I think of the Rockets losing in the playoffs I'm reminded of Hakeem's qoute after losing to the Sonics in '93 " We go from here" only years later did I realise that that's when he knew that winning a championship was possible. The Rockets have gone to the Finals without Hakeem, I know that they will do it again.
