I've heard an awful lot of complaining about the attendance at Rockets games. If you life in another city, you have no beef because you cannot contribute to the problem or the solution. I, personally, have no issue with attendance. We, as fans, have demands on our time and on our money. Like music, I will buy the CD, but probably won't go the concerts like I used to. Too expensive and I'm just not that interested. I don't often go to Rockets games because I simply cannot afford it and, having a business to run, usually don't have time for it. I prefer to watch the games on TV in the comfort of my living room, so I have no problem with the low attendance. I know that many of you do have a problem with it, however, so I ask: How many of you who complain about attendance AND live in the Houston area actually attend games on a regular basis? I don't mean a couple a season. I mean more than 15 or 20 per year on average. Just wondering. ------------------ I am very very sleepy.
I live in Austin and I've been to two already, and planning on going to more! ------------------ "He was under more balls than a midget hooker."-Bobby Hill visit www.swirve.com, coming January 20th, the top 10 films of 2000! and, http://www.geocities.com/clutch34_2000 for great Rocket insight by some of your fellow BBS posters!
Jeff- I live in Columbus, Ohio but I can tell you that I have season tickets to the Blue Jackets but especially in tuis first year I have sold alot of my gmaes. I love going to the games but the cost is quite high ($60/each for two tickets, is an expensive night out especially when beers are $5/each). Yeah I would love to goto every game, but it's not possible right now. I'll be happy to make it to 15-20/games this year.
I've been to 3 games this season and am going next Tuesday's game versus the Sixers. I'll probably manage at least another 5-10 before the season is over. My issue with the attendance is in a city where the population is arguable 4-5 million, there is no reason the Rockets should be struggling to fill 16,285 seats for 42 games a year. I mean sometimes we are worse than New York fans. They may b**** about their team, but they still show up and support them every night. ------------------ "Live as if you were to die tomorrow. As an out-of-towner, the one glaring thing I noticed in the Raptors-Rockets game on Tuesday was not the empty seats, but the lack of noise in the building. I've seen and been to some very quite buildings, but especially during the early stages of the game, I was surprised by the serene, tranquil atmosphere during the game. Those are nice attributes to have when your in the wilderness, but certainly not at a major league sporting event. Just two seasons ago I remember the Summitt, er Compaq Center had some rowdy fans that pumped up the game and energized the players, but I've noticed a drop-off. Perhaps it has to do with rebuilding, but with the exciting team we put on the floor, one would think the Compaq would be the Texas version of Arco Arena. Is it always that quiet? So I can't complain about the attendance because I don't live in Houston? I'd like to see my favorite team supported in its home, and back when I lived there I went to see as many games as a poor college student could afford. Jeff, Les should give you season tickets for all the work you put into SOR. I mean that. ------------------ "Thirty-seven?" -Randall, Clerks www.clutchtown.com
As it states in my tagline I am a season ticket holder with 4 seats($13 cheap seats) for the last 2 years. There is nothing I like better than going to a Rox game. I cant wait until my son is old enough to understand the game and enjoy it like I do. Originally i wasnt going to get season tickets with Barkely and soon to be Hakeem retiring, but when we got Steve Francis and the CAT, and Shandon I jumped back on board. I actually tried getting season tickets during the glory years but you had to be on a list first. Anyway I really dont care how many fans show up to the games. I just want the ones that are there to act like they are at a basketball game and not a baseball game. We have fair weather fans in Houston and I hate the negativity from some fans during the game. I almost got into it with one of them one game because I love my Rox so much. I also made the trip to the Dallas game in DEC and you should have seen how hyped their fans are. Maybe we need a Mark Cuban to juice the fans up. Anyway it was a great game and I had fun with the fans their especially since the Rox won. I am also worried about the filling up the new stadium in 2003 but hopefully by then we will have reached the mountaintop and my tickets will be a great investment like the Chicago Bulls tix were in the Jordan era. I am banking on it. ------------------ Rockets Season Ticket Holder
Yes it is that quiet except when we are making a 15 point comeback with 2 minutes left to go in the 4th quarter. The rest of the time you'd think you were at the PGA Tour Championship because all you hear are some "ooooo"'s and "ahhhh"'s when one of our guys dunks and a little golf clap afterwards. Let's put it this way, the crowd is so lame that when a friend and I sat down by the players entrance where there were empty seats in the 3rd quarter of the first Rockets-Lakers game this season, some old b*stard complained that were being too loud. Fortunately we saw better seats across the floor where a couple of fellow cheering Rocket fans were and joined them in making some noise. ------------------ "Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Try to go when you can. Plan it; and have fun. If you go or not, just remember there are many, many season ticket holders who have a lot of fun and will cheer anyone on the court. Because that is what fans do. Remember that when you watch the Rockets, and we lose, there are season ticket holders who must reconstruct their life around going to 44 games; who have rituals getting ready for each game; who cannot just flip off the TV and forget a last second loss to Utah by rolling over to a lovin' wife/girlfriend; we are stuck walking through a stadium and parking late full off Rudy rants and Mobley hatas; that is a lot of investment (especially emotional investment); remember when you vent here, it is easy to remind us of the b****ers at the game who are auditioning to be Yankees fans and think it is cool to yell at the home team. Remember the next time I throw an elbow at your vents here, I'm blind to who you are; I don't see your name; I am venting at the ******* who yelled Mobley Sucks in my ear at the game, or the father who was brainwashing his kid to say Rudy sucks. Venting is what fans do. But when you come to the game, remember that there are season ticket holder all over the place who don't want to hear your venting at the game. We are trying to have fun here, and let our players know it!! Join us!
When the Rockets start playing like they are worth the price of a ticket, I will go to a game. Until then, faggedaboudit. I have no problem with attendance at Rockets games. I believe it is indicative of both the high ticket prices and mediocre play. ------------------ "Blues is a Healer" --John Lee Hooker
I had season tickets before I moved to St. Louis. I don't think I could afford them now if I still lived in Houston. I did make it to the game against the Sonics when I was in town for the Christmas holidays. If the Rockets get back into the playoff hunt, I think interest in the team will improve. Heck, if the Rockets were in the Eastern Conference they might be the favorite to make the Finals.
Just looking at some old Rocket ticket stubbs from the '70's and early '80's. I averaged at least 20-30 games a season back then. $4.50-$6.00. A bagain for sure. I was at the Sacremento Game and the fans were pretty loud. I do notice that attendence is down, but that's good for me. Since I buy the $35 seats and move down to the $$$ seats! Its great down there! ------------------
Im a season ticket holder for the last two years. I can only attend about 30 games due to personal stuff. ------------------ SUCK POLICE!!!!!! To point out individuals or teams that have managed to reach the pinnacle of SUCKINESS!!!!! ----- THE VIKINGS SUCK BIG TIME!
I go to as many as I can. Since Im busy with work I cant attend alot. I attend about 10 a year. I go to games I can catch. How much is it for Season tickets? Tinman - Just a question, At the sacramento game, where did you sneak up to? Cause I saw someone sneak up in the front , 1 row in front of me. Just wondering. ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris fan club.
The team may not be doing that well, but even the clipper fans are louder than the Rocket fans. They get more attendence, despite being 13-28. The Rockets are under .500 at home because of their rather massive lack of home court advantage. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
The rockets are not even close to having the worst home crowd. Watch a Cavs, Heat, or Nets game and you'll see what I mean. The clippers get alot of fans because people like the arena and LA has alot more people. Whenever I go to the games I am one of the loudest there. I have floor seats so alot of the people down there are posers, not true rockets fans. It's embarassing how I have to be the first one to stand up when they announce the starting lineups.I have no problem with the attendance. Houston sports fans are pretty lazy in general and like attending games but dont want to go to the trouble of driving to the compaq center. Thats the truth. ------------------ [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited January 18, 2001).]
RocketsPimp and ZRB have it right. Houston is one of the largest cities in the country! We're barely removed from back-to-back championships (the first ever for the city in any professional sport), and we're at the bottom of the league in attendance? Houston is good for many things, but professional sports ain't one of them. Thank God I got out of there when I could. It's simply embarassing to have such a great organization like the Rockets do and have such a piss-poor fan-base. And we shouldn't have to go to 15-20 games a year! Not many people have that kind of money. If every fan just went to 1 game a year (which I'm guessing is the norm for most cities, outside of the wealthy), the place would be packed every night! Houston just doesn't care, and they don't deserve pro sports. ------------------ "I have to say, I don't understand why these Rockets' fans are booing Scottie." -Calvin Murphy
You just take any price and times it by 44. 41 regular season games, and three preseason games. $10 tickets X 44 games = $440. I have the $13 tickets. The season tickets go all the way up $28,800!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course when there are so many season ticks available u can buy em in the middle of the season, or whenever the heck u please. ------------------ SUCK POLICE!!!!!! I go to about one or two a year, so I'm no expert on this issue. But I have noticed that upperdeck fans make more noise. Maybe cause the bottom deck is older, richer, more proper. I'm not trying to offend anyone, that's just what I've noticed. But yeah, the fans, mostly on the bottom, suck when it comes to making noise. But it ain't that big of a deal.
