As discussed in other thread, that there is still negotiation between Rockets and Yao's agent. I think the issue they are talking about is about who going to pay insurance for Yao to play for China National Team.

    Here is my reasoning.

    1) All lots discussions are centering TV rights. But I think this is an old issue. As other old issues, such as some agreetment can not put in formal contract, it should be resolved when Goodberg in China. It is hard to think they have not cover this area early on.

    2) Among the new development (since Goodberg last trip). One biggest topic is Wang Zhizhi. But since Yao has announce publicly his willingness to play for national team, and public support of Rockects stand. There is nothing to talk about between agent and Rockets. Even in the situation of Yao play more game than early both parties agree on. It is an issue between Rockects and CBA.

    3) Since Goodberg's trip, another new development is that, with Cuban stand in the way, Dirk almost fail to represent Germany for World Game. In the end, Dirk has to pay portion of insurance in order to participate. I am not sure what amount insurance coverage Yao differ from Dirk's (just recovering from the surgery). But still likely Yao will be asked to pay some of those. That is something agent Zhang need to consider. And that is something related to MONEY term.

    What you think?

could be, although Les did say,

<i>"there are things his agents are asking for that we are unwilling to give."</i>

My understanding from the Cuban ordeal was that Cuban had every right to ask for better insurance, claiming that Germany's National Team was not up to standards of FIBA. Did Nash pay extra? What about Peja. I thought this was just a Germany thing.

Further, there is no insurance until you sign him. If Les wants insurance above what the China NT provides, seems like he better get him signed, and just continue negotiating that. I don't see where his leverage is in negotiating extracurricular insurance as a stipulation to signing.

Nash actually withdraw from the World Game. He is not willing to pay insurance himself. Germany have insurance for Dirk, but it does not cover 100%. It is not required to have 100% coverage from FIBA. And Germany basktball association's buggets don't have extral money to buy better one to satisfy Cuban.

In the end, Mav's Finley and LaF went w/o Cuban's blessing since American teams insurance only cover 80%.
