I dont know about teams, but that idiot Marbury definitely needs to change his nickname. Starbury is stupid enough as it is, but he himself came up that r****ded nickname.

I'm reasonably happy with everyone's names. The one that makes the least sense -- the Utah Jazz -- now has so much history that it would be a travesty to change.

I've always thought it would make sense for the Utah basketball team and the New Orleans football team to switch names, thus:

    Utah Saints
    New Orleans Jazz

    Sounds good to me ...

Whatever happened to that rumor where the Jazz had said they might be willing to discuss giving their name to N.O.?

Thus, the Utah Hornets?? err, what?

I can't believe the name "Bobcats!" That would have been a better name for the Texans (Bob McNair)...

Carolina Panthers (large cat, aka mountain lion, puma, cougar) and now in the same state
"Bobcats!?!" (small, overgrown domestic cat with bigger teeth and claws... and a bobbed tail? for a hoop team?)

Next it'll be the Charlotte Cougars MLB, and the Carolina Lions (instead of current name) in the NHL. In fact, Duke University should ditch Nike and go exclusively PUMA, and change their name to the Blue Tigers, and NCC State could be the Cardiac Catz, then UNC could be the Tar Claws

Are there that many cat species in the Carolinas?

Trade Jazz for Hornets, and Hornets for Bobcats, then change Bobcats to appropriate species for rocky mtns. thus =

    N. O. Jazz
    Charlotte Hornets
    Utah Mountain Lions

Just as long as Utah's mascot / name is still stupid.:p

Utah needs to change their name to something that is distinct with their state like MOST teams in the NBA.

Houston Rockets: Houston is the center of the aerospace industry

Seattle Supersonics: Seattle is the center of air travel industry.

Detroit Pistons: Detroit is the center of auto industry.

and so on and so on...

I'll second that! What kind of a crappy-pandering-to-little-chidren-who-like-Barney-so-you-can-sell-more-freaking-purple-stuffed-animals-and-profit-from-the-since-long-dead-Jurrasic-Park- craze-glad-it-isn't-1977-or-it-would-be-the-Toronto-R2D2s-having-nothing-at-all-to-do-with-the-region-and-simply-being-just-a-terrible-nickname is that?

    .

I also agree. For me the name always makes me think they caught on the the popularity of Jurassic Park a few years too late.

Also i was wondering if the Hornets was a regional name? If not why the sudden need for a change?

I'm tellin you... there were dinosaur fossils found around the greater Toronto area... and they were thought to be that of great birds or "raptors"...

Other than that, it does seem to be a ploy to sell to kids, except that I didn't think the Jurassic Park series were totally "kids" movies per say.

Hey, I know you've heard this before, but I'm just offering it up for anybody who hasn't, since it does have relevance to the topic here...The Houston Rockets actually used to be the San Diego Rockets, who got their name drawn out of a hat. Just so happened to be that the stupidly named SD Rox got moved to a city that suited that name...I wonder did that have anything to do with the move? Back in those times, NBA teams weren't really cash cows so who cared what team they relocated, as long as it had a cool name...maybe.

But congrats on the 2000 posts. I'll catch up with you one day;)
