I never understood the obsession with having big, potentiallly dangerous dogs like pit-bulls, etc.

pit bulls = most overrated animal on the planet

big shocker that almost everyone i've ever known to own a pit bull has been a grade A douche.

Those who have them for status symbols or whatever are almost always compensating for something, no doubt. I have a friend who rescues them, however, and wouldn't describe her as a douche. Not if I wanted to keep my crotch from being busted, that is.

As for the animals themselves, she's got 8 of them at her house and they are great. The only difference between a Pit and any other dog imo, is the amount of damage they can do in a short period of time. Any dog will turn and bite you under the right circumstances, but a Pit Bull will seriously mess you up before you realize what's going on.

I had a pit when I was younger and didn't have any penis envy, I'm not a wanna-be-gangsta, etc. The dogs just look cool (isn't that why most choose their specific dog?).

i was just generalizing but go into my old neighborhood and you'd find a pit bull on every block. all the kids at teh basketball park wanted a pit bull. what did they do with them? put them in fights.

Yeah the dog-lover lobby will always tell you there's no such thing as a bad dog or even a bad dog breed, jsut a bad owner, but honestly who the hell buys a pit bull so that it can be a nice loving family pet when there are so many other options out there? I think that "aggressive" dog breeds - those bred for fighting, etc - and their owners tend to mirror each other, really.

I used to hate pits but I started to change my tune. I think I dislike them because people who are often poor have them and train them poorly. Then if they can't take care of them they free them and then they terrorize people.

We had a stray one in the neighborhood that killed two cats owned by the lady across the street. That is bad but my next door neighbor has a 3 year old and 6 year old who play in the front yard all the time If the dog was to attack them what do you do?

I mean any dog can attack but people take these dogs and turn them into menaces.

How do you guys know these were pitts? I didn't see anywhere in the article that mentioned pit bulls. There are other very dangerous breeds out there.

Pitbulls are just the dog of choice for some people. This girl I used to talk to had 6 of them. I cant stand dogs personally though.

Let's go back to the original story. The dogs killed a midget horse. Does any body find that funny? Am I just cruel?

Why would anyone want a pit bull? They are not attractive animals in either appearance or temperment. I just don't see what the appeal is.

For my money, there is no more brave, loyal, and trustworthy dog than a german shepherd.

yeah but certain breeds are more prone to being unpredictable and over protective. akitas and chows are 2 other breeds that can be very dangerous to have. i think they are worse than pit bulls. the bottom line is pit bulls are terriers and they have terrier characteristics except they are much bigger and stronger than most terriers. plus they were bred to fight and those aggressive characteristics will be stronger with some pits. when you have people that encourage the aggressiveness and don't socialize their pit bulls then you have problems.
