Has anybody seen Jennings play? Does he have "game?" If we don't get Ming, Marcus or Stoudemire (I don't want to consider Borchardt after seeing him play), would Jennings be a viable alternative or should we just stick with Collier as backup to Cato?
What's wrong with Borchardt? Jennings played for Arkansas State which is in the Sunbelt Conference with Western Kentucky. WKU defeated ASU twice during the regular season...once with Chris Marcus and once without. I say pass... he probably has less upside than Marcus.
Okay, I'm certainly not a scout, but he looked clumsy and weak against other centers. As bad as Christoffersen looked, he was more of a force than Borchardt. If you like Borchardt, then close your eyes and -- presto! -- he's on the Rockets. (His name is Jason Collier -- only Collier is taller, heavier, more coordinated and a better shot.)
I did not see Borchadt but... 1) Based upon statistics, he outplayed Marcus, who outplayed Jennings. 2) Collier was effectively a number 15 pick. Most mock pools have Borchardt much higher (7-8). It appears most scouts rate Borchadt highly thus far. (I recall that most mock drafts did not have Collier as a lotto pick). 3) I did not see the games, but statistically Borchadt dominated Christoffersen when Stanford met Oregon. IMHO, Collier is in reality a PF trapped in the Rockets need for big man shooting distance. Marcus' value is shot blocking and some low post offense. Again, I did not see Borchadt versus Marcus but statistically Borchadt was better. If the Rockets are unable to trade up but are able to trade down in the draft, I believe there is a possibilty of Borchadt and a vet SF as the net result. The Rockets will also try to move Collier as well to make room. Unlike most posters, I am not a Collier hater and if Borchardt works out well I would not be surprised to see the Rockets draft him. In some ways, he is redundant to Collier but has more upside.
Most people were shocked Collier even went in the first round or at least that high in the first round.
I like Collier on the team and agree that he is really a power forward. It's just that Borchardt looked so awkward when I saw him play. As glacial as Christoffersen was, at least he looked coordinated. If we don't get Ming, I'd prefer to trade up with our #15 to take Marcus or -- if we can't use our pick on Woods -- take a gamble that Stoudemire could become a franchise center. IMO, Amare will go somewhere between #6 and #10 -- he'll never last to #15 (and neither will Marcus).
Borchardt and Christoffersen aren't even on the same planet athletically. Bordchart is very athletic for his size, is a good shot blocker and has good range. Athletically he is closer to Cato or Theo Ratliff than he is to Christoffersen, and the latter looks like a smaller shorter Mark Eaton or a less athletic (if this is possible) Eric Montross.
