I've been getting to play more basketball lately, and over there in the GARM somebody was talking about Allan Houston. When I was in high school and back when I played more pickup in college, people would always name him as my NBA comparison... i.e. "that dude's the asian allan houston man...", on my good days I got asian peja comparisons, but I never scored that much consistently. But in any case, I don't have D (though not really a lack of effort) or rebound well for my size (I'm like 6'2")... but I do have the pure stroke. So Allan Houston is really pretty astute for me. The NBA comparison I liked for myself was always Steve Smith, you know but this was back in like 1999. When Steve Smith was a premier shooter, but also had a good post up game against guards, like he did against Kobe in the WCF's that one year. I had some of the same moves, you know, scaled down for quality. So for those of you who play basketball, who are your NBA comparisons? I mean you don't have to be good, like I'm not that great... just a relative comparison is all.
HAHAHAHAHAHA...that was good so you're saying that your NBA comparison is combination of Mo Taylor, Amare Stoudemire, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas right?
I would say Dan Majerle. When im on with my shot, im on, if I suck, i struggle like a mofo. My defense is pretty good, if you pull some AND 1 crap on me, you'll get it stolen. I remember some guy last year at a pickup game at U of H last year tried to dribble it between my legs, i stole it, turned around and drained a shot (it was half court bball)
Charles Barkley. I rebound well, take ill-advised 3-pointers, back it into the basket EXACTLY like he did, and play poor defense.
Wow... all we need is someone who's NBA comparison is John Stockton, then Dave2000, Vengeance, Me, and the massive black hole would be a pretty good team. As long as KingCheetah at least will kick it out on triple teams and suck in rebounds.
Imagine Steve Francis...now imagine him with a really shaky handle ( not hard some nights) but much better on D. And let him play a lot in the post...as a point. That was me. My problem was my athleticism had me playing above my skill level, and my more obvious physical abilities ( speed, quickness, etc.) and the fact that i was a shade under 6'1" had coaches playing me at the point despite the fact that the most important aspect, ballhandling, was missing. I could shoot, run, pass, score inside, jump, and defend, but I had a below average handle for a player, a terrible one for a point, and I still started at the 1 in HS, for our top team. My coach would consistently overlook my obvious shortcomings because of my abilities and potential, and because he was close friends with the coaches from the sports ( football, track and baseball) where my skill matched my abilities...
I would say Tracy McGrady handling the ball, almost becoming a PG when I want to. Posting up some moves Rebound pretty well Driving in the paint occasionally collecting a few blocks here and there and dropping those 3's like rain
In the past, I was like an out of control Pete Maravich. Now I’m more like Mark Jackson. No, wait…no one is that slow. Probably like non cheating John Stockton.
I was the white Todd Day at basketball camp. I was 6'1", 150 and could shoot and slash like a madman. Damn to be 14 again!
