Mario Elie would probably be my favorite former CBA player that's played for the Rockets.

Can't choose between Elie and Chucky Brown. Both were among my favorite Rockets.

Smoothie: I saw Maloney at Einstein's Bagels on Montrose a few weeks ago. Asked him who was playing with next year and he said he didn't know.

It has to be Elie. He epitomized the self-made man in the NBA. Not tall, not quick, not a great leaper. He didn't really even have a REAL jump shot.

But what he could do was be a hard-a$$ed SOB.

There was nothing better than that slow wind-up on the set shot three, giving all of the opposing team time to collectively say "Oh, s***!" He went from the CBA to become a starter and big time star in the playoffs, especially in the Finals against the Magic.

    One more favorite moment:

Danny Ainge spikes Mario in the head with the ball, and then cowers in fear as Mario gives one of the meanest 6" away stare-downs I've ever seen. Elie didn't even have to touch Ainge to make him look like he was about to s*** himself. Classic, and one of my enduring memories of Ainge.

Mario Elie was my favorite CBA player on the Rockets, but
the one CBA player who I really felt sorry for was Emanuel Davis,he was shooting the ball really well before he got injured and never recovered after that.

    YO!! Mario!!

However, I loved Chucky also because he was always where he was supposed to be to get easy layups and put backs. He is the epitome of "two points is two points"

I was at that game where Mario got beaned by that Celtic ass. I thought he was very smart and terrifically controlled not to get the T they were itching to give him for retaliating. I would have busted that prick in the nuts and stomped on his goiter till blood washed the court. Mario made me very proud.

I really think the Rockets won those titles against all odds, against every entrenched interest, and against the wishes of the league. They did it with remarkable self-control, swallowing the evil whistles and crushing their opponents with unargueable, masterpiece nails in the clutch. The evil whistles make me sick. Still, I must say, the Rox sacked it up, and Sacto didn't.

I still hate every team that's handed victory. Choke on your trophy, scumbags. The devil will always have his due.

And...conversely, I'll always love teams that succeed against the wishes of the system. Detroit and Houston, esp.

Chucky Brown is a superstar stud sub, tho. One guy who gets it.
If more of us could be like Chucky. No one will be like mike. Anyone can be like Chucky, but so few set that good example.

Ainge was either with Portland or probably the Suns when he threw the ball at Mario. Danny played with the Celtics in the 80's and was in the Western Conference in the 90's and Mario was on the Houston roster in the mid 90's.

Man, we can't forget my boy Eldridge Recasner...wasn't Randy Livingston out of the CBA too? Regardless, I know the Yakima Sun Kings absolutely hate our organization because we robbed that team in particular over and over (and over-Mario played for them too).

Ainge was with the Suns, of course, Mango - he was retaliating in frustration after a big shot, with the Suns flaming. He will always be a green a-hole, though. You can't wash that green stain off, no matter how you try.

    Mario, definitely.

Chucky gets an honorable mention. Does anyone remember when, after facing the Suns in the playoffs, Chucky said, "Charles Barkley didn't know who I was prior to this series"? Charles responded by saying, "I still don't." After the Rockets won the championship, I so badly wanted to tell Barkley, "He's the guy over there with the ring." :)

dTown333, I believe we drafted Livingston out of LSU.

Hard to believe Barkley would have said that after Chucky was matched up with him most of the series, and played him well. The quote I remember was, after being told he'd be guarded by Chucky Brown in the series, Barkley said, "Who's Chucky Brown?" If he said after the series he still didn't know who he was, he was joking.

On Elie: Does anyone else still carry a grudge against Jalen Rose for that flagrant all those years ago? Elie was playing his best ball then and never seemed quite the same after that. To this day, whenever I see J. Rose play all I can think about is poor Mario's wrist.
