Don't take this poll seriously. Since "Yao-only-fan" has become an big issue recently, I want to know whether I am a "Yao-only-fan".

    1. All Chinese fans

    2. All converted fans
new fans converted from other teams or other sports because of Yao Ming or other Rockets players.

    3. All the fans who registered after the Draft.
Those who someone call them "newbies".

    4. All the fans who bash Steve, Cat or Kenny.
most of time the reason to bash them is "not giving Ming the ball"

    5. All the fans who care about Yao Ming's stats.
Isn't it very important for a player you like to have good stats?

    6. All the fans who are happy if Rockets lose while Yao Ming has a good stats.
I will pick this one but I think sometimes they just want to comfort themselves from the sadness of the failures.

    7. please tell me what is your concept about "Yao-only-fan"

If Yao Ming is traded to other teams, I will definitely follow him and support his new team. So maybe I am a "Yao first and Rockets second" fan. But Yao Ming is a Rocket now and I definitely support Rockets with all my heart. I want Rockets win a lot of games. I hope Ming to bring rings to Rockets. I don't want Ming to become a gay like KG or VC, who is a superstar in a poor team. All of these mean that I do care about the victory of Rockets.

    Am I a "Yao-only-fan"?

Number 6 sounds like a good definition.

IMO...a "Yao-only" fan is someone who could care less if the Rockets win as long as Yao gets his shots.

    I guess..I would call them a combination of 5 and 6.

Hell if I know anymore..I answered your question about your status in my eyes in the other thread where you first mentioned this.

Not to the strictest degree. I think the question is: If Yao was traded/free agent to another team, would you still be a Rockets fan?"

If your answer is no, the poll is meaningless.

P.S. I think pansy or wuss is a better word than "a gay". ;)

In all fariness winandsea, if someone came to this board recently, they'd think you are. But for the people who've been here for, at least, a few months, they know you're not.

I don't think Yao Ming-only fans rack up 1000+ posts over a few months.

OK, one more time to vent and I'm done, I promise. ;)

    I vote for:

#8. People who write things like,

'The Rockets need to trade Yao Ming, they won't pass him the ball.'

After a victory over the Heat, 'Yao Ming only had 6 shots. What's wrong with this team?!'

'The Rockets need to trade Francis for Nash.' (Translation: Nash would pass to Yao Ming more than Francis is)

A Yao-only-fan is a combo of all of the above. New, Chinese, converted fans who bash Steve and Cat nonstop, care only about Ming's stats and # of touches, and doesn't care if the Rox lose. Usually anyone who doesn't care if the Rox lose has all of these qualities, so #6.

    It is a fundamental question:

Are you a fan of the team or of a player?

When Olajuwon left before last season, we had a lot of people who were critical of him because of the way he left. We also had a lot of people who were critical of the Rockets Mgmt for letting him go.

Which group was right and which one was wrong?

I don't know if there is a definitive answer to this one.

I, personally, am a fan of the Rockets team. I want to see them play to their capability.

I have to admit that fans who are only interested in Yao and could care less about if the Rockets win or lose are fans that I really would not want to have discussions with.

I think that most true fans start with a favorite player or the beating of a team that they hate. I know I did. (86' beating the lakers, my father is a huge lakers fan and I was 8 so when the Rockets beat them they became my team. ) My wife hates the lakers because she thought Brian Grant is cute and when they beat Portland no more Brian Grant, then she started to apprecate the game more and saw that the lakers are far more evil then that far more evil.

Ask yourself this, if Yao went elsewhere and was not playing the Rockets...would you root for them? You can be a fan with out them being your favorite team. Example: the Rockets are my favorite team but I am a big fan of any team beating the lakers unless it will cost the rockets a playoff spot.

The NBA is a superstar league where fans follow superstars as much as they follow their teams. When Barkley and Pippen came over, they brought along their respective fans. When Hakeem went over to Toronto, I kept an eye everyday to see how he was doing. With Yao, it's three-fold because he's brought along an entire country. We all have an opinion about what the Rockets should do and they have an opinion about what the Rockets should do. From what I've seen, many of these opinions overlap. Getting the Yao-only fans to admit that is bogus...what is it gonna accomplish? Are we gonna no longer have the "Get Yao the Ball" threads or "Trade Francis." "Trade Francis" threads and such have been here long before Yao Ming's name was even heard. If there's a silly thread suggesting Yao would be better on another team, ignore it...more likely than not, it will get locked down by the title alone. Don't go on some witchhunt suggesting that Yao-only fans don't understand the NBA. This league is wrought with fans who follow only one player. Some of you just don't like what they're saying, when in fact, many Rocket fans are saying the same thing.

    hi

I will try my best to express how i feel.

I like jason kidd so when he was traded to nets, i supported nets as well.

Then yao joined rockets and i am sopporting rockets as well. If yao is traded NOW, I honestly dont think i would support rockets as much as i do NOW. But if yao will be traded 10 years from now, I think i would be huge rockets fan and yao fan at the same time. Isn't it normal that it takes time to build up your loyalty to a team? Isn't it normal that many new fans support their idol players first and then their respective teams. And become die heart fan of the teams after their idol/franchise players retired.

Do I care about ming's statistics now. I think I do. It is because ming has so much to prove in these first few weeks. When he was playing lakers' game, I wanted him to have 19 points no matter rockets won or lost. But as the time pass by, I think ming has proved his ability and I care about his stats less and less. At the end, he has to prove his ability by winning championship with rockets. It means I would also care about rockets won or lost ultimately.

So i think i am also a yao-only-fan NOW. But as i know rockets more or more, my love with rockets grows.

How do you know the daughter is 5 years? Was it posted? I am kind of curious to find out more about windandsea, she is so mysterious :).

Responding to the question of the thread, I think dragon167's post sums it up quite nicely.

imo, it is simple. A Yao-only fan is someone who is saying Yao is on the wrong team, that the Rockets are not good for him. This has been said numerous times by Yao-only fans.

Those who want the #1 Pick in the Draft to play for another team are not Rockets fans....plain and simple.

I am a fan of Yao ming in the sense that I truely believe that in order for this team to succceed in the playoff and may be someday win it all the Rocket's offense has to run through the big fellow in the middle. The rockets as a team is gonna keep on struggling as they did this pass week for the rest of the season if they keep on playing small ball and put up crazy jumpers.

Now, if that makes me a Yao ming only fan then count me as such.

    I agree with you.

I just voted the all-star team.

    West:
    Yao Ming
    Steve
    Cat
    Kenny
    Brand

    So I am not a "Yao-only-fan". ;)
