Since Anthony Bennett answered the question about the worst-ever first pick, I was wondering who the worst #2 pick was? Drafted before Wade, Carmelo, Bosh Drafted before Harden and Curry Drafted before GOAT Statistically the Tanzanian dream is probably the worst of the 3: http://www.basketball-reference.com...licda01&p2=thabeha01&p3=bowiesa01&p4=&p5=&p6=
Here is the list and OH BOY have there been some duds at number 2 in recent years: 2013 Victor Oladipo 2012 Michael Kidd-Gilchrist 2011 Derrick Williams 2010 Evan Turner 2009 Hasheem Thabeet 2008 Michael Beasley 2007 Kevin Durant 2006 LaMarcus Aldridge 2005 Marvin Williams 2004 Emeka Okafor 2003 Darko Milicic 2002 Jay Williams 2001 Tyson Chandler 2000 Stromile Swift 1999 Steve Francis 1998 Mike Bibby 1997 Keith Van Horn 1996 Marcus Camby 1995 Antonio McDyess 1994 Jason Kidd 1993 Shawn Bradley 1992 Alonzo Mourning 1991 Kenny Anderson 1990 Gary Payton 1989 Danny Ferry 1988 Rik Smits 1987 Armon Gilliam 1986 Len Bias 1985 Wayman Tisdale 1984 Sam Bowie 1983 Steve Stipanovich 1982 Terry Cummings 1981 Isiah Thomas 1980 Darrell Griffith For me Darko is probably the worst? He played 10 years, yes. But at the level of a 2nd round 7' stiff....
sam bowie had solid seasons in the league. his rookie year was pretty good and he averaged a double-double one year. he was just injured. and even darko had a couple role player seasons. thabeet basically never got on the court, averaging no more than 13 mpg.
Are we talking about the worst player selected at #2, or the worst #2 pick given who was still on the board? Hasheem Thabeet is probably the worst player, but obviously passing up on MJ for Bowie was the worst pick.
If Bowie is in there Jay Williams should be too, both careers cut WAY short by injuries. I would go with Thabeet though. DD
Thabeet is definitely worse than Darko. People forget that Darko had a stealth run as a quality (-ish) bench player for Orlando and Memphis before he finally fizzled for good. He actually averaged 12 and 8 per 36 minutes once you average out the good and the bad. Thabeet's career high in minutes was his rookie year, before everyone noticed he didn't deserve even bench minutes. Also, if someone had told you in 2009 that Marvin Williams would be probably the fourth best #2 pick in a 15 year period, how loud would you have laughed?
Thabeet and it ain't even close. At no point in his professional career did he resemble an actual NBA player.
