I know that most of you guys don't like the show so save those posts for later, I personally enjoy viewing these rags to riches stories and think that those stories are compelling. My question is what is the the thing that makes this show so popular when so many before it have failed.

Seacrest- He's not the best talkshow host, but he owns this show and I think if Brian Dunkleman was still the host it would be over.

The winners- some people love the thrill of victory, some love the...

    The losers- ...agony of defeat

Paula and Randy- I put them together because they basically occupy the same role, and that's setting up Simon.

Simon- Without his commentary, accent and candor would anyone even care?

I think the reason American Idol is so popular is because nearly everyone who watches believes they could easily compete on it as well.

Damn straight. If they ever raise the age to 35 and under, I am going to OWN that show.

    Y'all better start to reconize.

Simon is the show's only redeemable quality.

Randy seems like the kind of guy that always hangs around your crew and thinks he's so cool, but everyone really hates him.

I've definitely got to go with Simon on this one. It's fun to watch him sometimes, especially when he has no clue about certain aspects of American culture.

He says some rough things, but I appreciate it a lot more when he has good things to say.

Even when I didn't watch the show, I would still stop the dial if I noticed Simon was about to say something.

    The Losers.

I love the first few episodes of that show. The worse singers they have trying out, the more entertaining the show is. Especially the ones that have NO CLUE how horrible they are. I love watching their little hearts sink as they are finally told the truth. Especially when Simon plays with their emotions right before he tells them how much they BLOW.

Once they weed out the losers (although it can be argued that everyone on that show is a loser) I quit watching.

I went for the winners, because Simon is already rich. Proportionately, to go from making no money to a lot of money is most significant.

Afterall, it's always about the money.

They seem to have a better mix this year, but generally American Idol stars are boring, bland people singing boring, bland music. Since Randy and Paula spend most of their time kissing boring, bland ass, I have to give the nod to Simon, who, while he's a jerk, is at least a funny at times.

The best shows are the opening episodes though, where they bring in people who obviously are absolutely terrible just so they can get entertainment value out of their sad performances, and the subsequent crushing of their futile dreams.

This is the first show where I hope to see a few of them succeed afterward.

I like Carrie, because she can sing and she's hot. When she sang 'Alone', it reminded me of a crush I had on Nancy Wilson years ago. She was spot on.

But, I like Anwar and Bo because they seem like naturals on the stage.

    The rest are typicals.

Nadia Turner is anything but typical. She's my pick!

Cant stand Seacrest...Paula may be the dumbest human on the planet...Randy has about 15 words to his vocabulary...Simon makes that show IMO.

I hope the guy Bo wins but he probably wont

Bo can really sing...but he's getting a little boring for me. Anwar is good too. I still like Nadia (her style).....I just found out she used to be a Miami Dolphins cheerleader.
