Was there someone on the BBS that you just could not stand but now enjoy reading their posts?

Was there someone that you butted heads with a lot, but now find yourself laughing over what had happened in the past with this person?

I've had some battles, but without question, this one is easy for me...it has to be TheFreak.

We have had some disagreements that got heated in the past, but I have also found that we have something in common...a love for music - particularly rock music.

It is amazing that when you quit focusing on one specific aspect of a poster and look at other things that you might find out things about them that you had never known or had overlooked. Plus, I always admire how he would say things that may have not been the most popular thing to say.

Just 3 months ago, I didn't think that this would be possible, but it goes to show you what can happen when you approach things with an open mind and give every BBS poster a chance when you read their posts.

When I first got here, BrianKagy and I got into some fun arguments. I don't think we could agree on anything. Those were the days! :)

I second Major, but it was brief and long ago...even though it seems that he doesn't like me anymore. :(

Treeman, when he is on the Rockets Games Action etc Board, where I almost always agree with him.

Too bad he doesn't stick to that bbs.

    Thanks Manny.

I like everyone, and try to remember at all times that this board is not real life, and that I could hang out with anyone on it and probably have a good time.

By the way, anyone know if that Best Poster Tournament is still going on?

Some of the more "senior" posters drove me crazy with their denunciation of any opinion not their own. But I got over that. They've been more mellow, and I've quit posting my more ludicrous trade scenarios. Now I leave these to Hottoddie (who, at least, adds a blurb with each post, i.e., don't take this too seriously).

I always remember that the people I was most excited about meeting were Kagy, TheFreak, and Clutch. All of them because we had such heated and good debates on this board. That's what everyone needs to remember, the vast majority of these people are really cool, and even though things may get out of hand sometimes, don't take it personally.

BTW, I was also excited about meeting everyone else I've met...shot out to Jeff, Drewdog, RocketsPimp, Joe Joe, JBIIRockets, DVauthrin, DaDakota, Cohen, kissofdeath-Behad and gr8-1, you too.

Believe it or notmany conservatives like me in real life and I like quite a few of them myself. Of course we don't usually go at it like on this bbs.

Responding more seriously than the first thread, I think Cohen and I are getting along better in cyberspace.

Timing and Hayes used to annoy the crap out of me. Now I really enjoy their posts.

Without a doubt, tacomaparklegend. When tpl first joined, we had many arguments over Collier and the likewise, and I thought he was one of those posters who cared nothing about substance and only flashy, athletic players. I turned out to be really wrong. He's turned out to be one of the more objective and insightful posters on this BBS, and I really enjoy his posts.

    Damn skippy!

Actually, I hate my old BBS self too. If you think I'm a jackass now, read some of my own posts...luckily Clutch got rid of most of my really bad ones.

I was an absolute dick to Major, RM95, and most of all RocketmanTex, but I now think of all three of them as... what's that word the Hardy Boys used?

No, not assholes.... oh yeah, "chums". :D

In all seriousness, I have really tried to temper my remarks and show more respect fo people on the BBS based on some of the confrontations I've had with those three (along with Jeff). I don't want to dismiss anyone else's posts as-- RM95, how did I put it?-- "Ignorance! Sheer, unadulterated ignorance!" :)

Crispee has gone out of his way to be civil towards me even when I've not returned the favor. I am hoping that, should he return, I can begin to reciprocate that treatment.

The two things that work for me are:

    1) Trying to see myself from other people's perspectives. Doesn't always work, but generally helps me keep a semi-civil tongue.

    2) Not seeing "the opposition" to my political viewpoints as a monolithic force dedicated to winning at all costs, no matter what the consequences. I think September 11th really helped a lot of people in this regard.

You may have disagreed, prior to that (or since), on how to combat global terrorism-- but I think we can all pretty much agree that save for a few misguided individuals, we've all got what we think are America's best interests at heart.

I posted a thread a ways back asking who you were embarassed to be politically aligned with. I thought the answers were fascinating. Most of the liberals who make me throw up my hands and swear when I see them on "The O'Reilly Factor" or read about them in "The National Review" were cited by the liberal posters on this BBS as embarassing to them. I'm sure a lot of the liberal posters were suprised to see some of the people we conservatives distanced ourselves from, as well.

I'm got a ways to go, but I'd like to think I've improved some. Nowadays, pretty much nothing short of being told my opinion is "so stupid" sets me off.

    Probably Timing.

TheFreak might be my answer in a sense. When I first joined, he was one of my favorite posters. Loved his basketball posts. Then I started reading hangout threads, and he started to annoy me. I've probably gained some perspective, since then, because I pretty much enjoy all his posts except on politics and Hakeem (thought he always had a point on Hakeem, that some people seem ungrateful... just felt he didn't see the other side).

And it was! :) While I don't remember the thread exactly, I'm guessing you were probably right.

Now, when in the hell are you coming out with us???

Yeah me too, but he's mellowed out.
    also...
LIVE jumped down my throat once for one of my dumb answers...but you guys should know I make no sense anyway and I DO NOT take the time to read all of thread. Thus my misinformed problem.
He apologized and all is good since then.

Also, a little ":)" every once in a while is a good way to let people know its no big deal whatever you say...

Well I don't really dislike Princess just disagree with a lot of her responses. Maybe over time I will learn to agree with some of them.

Yes, the tournament is still going on. Pued is supposed to do the next bracket sometime later tonight.

    RM95,
I used to be really intimidated by you for some reason...really don't know why, but I have learned that there was no reason to feel like that.
