When Charles Barkely got hurt in '99, the click was formed. Run by the two guards that dominated the game. Steve and Cuttino quickly took over the team. Not only in the game but also in the locker room, they played an important role in the success and failure of the rockets. Over the years we have seen the click get bigger and more powerful. That infuriated a lot of people here in clutch city. From 99 to 02 it was a steam roller. You could tell the strength of it from the contracts to the draft to the tv commercials to the box scores. It was basically mob rule with Steve as the godfather, Cuttino as under boss, Moochie as Consigliore and Cato as Fredo. We could tell who was in or out of the click very quickly. Like we didn't have to worry about Eddie Griffin since he was from philly. He was automatically in the click. But anyone who wasn't in the click was shipped. First it was Shandon, then it was Damon Jones and so on. The first crack in their power was when they lost the battle was with Yao getting drafted. If they would have made the trade hey wanted, we would have Lamar Odom and probably have drafted Wilcox with the clippers pick. The team would be filled to hilt with pieces of the click. PG - Francis SG - Cuttino SF - Odam PF - Wilcox C - Cato Rudy T would still be the coach. And we would be 50 game winners that would never win the title. We would have been in the playoffs a lot but would have never won any titles. But Draft day 2002 was about money. Not the talent of Yao. It was about the 2 billion Chinese jerseys and the guy that is just too tall to pass up. The debate was on. Who should we draft? In the end we made the right move by drafting Yao. But Steve and Cat were smart then to know that it was all down hill. With the firing of Rudy T and trade for TMac. WE DON”T HAVE A CLICK. I guess the Nachbar, Yao and Yaos mother are a click that is still around. But I think I am gong to miss the power of the players. I didn't worry about the camaraderie of our team. Even if they lost games. I knew that they were close and did it the right way. They played hard? They played physical? They had each other back? They liked to go out? They liked to have fun? and most of all the loved to win. Unfortunately the didn't know how to win but at least they loved it. Why is having a click important? The player police are a powerful part of a team’s success. I think that Steve and Cuttino had a lot to do with the professionalism of Jim Jackson. He may become a locker room poison if they are not around. We are in uncharted territory now. We have players with bad history of being a poison in the locker room. We already know that McGrady is a little soft and Howard is very critical of TMAC. Reece is probably not a good guy if they were willing to dump him after just one year. But if we want to win a championship we will need powerful players not only in the game but also in the locker room. We will need a new click for that to happen.
Classic! The only clique I am interested in is the one that wins championships clique. Oh and DarkHorse has already stated that one thing about cliques here. Didn't Behad start that? Should we not copywrite that saying to him? DarkHorse - please pay Mr. Behad his royalties immediately!
That's hilarious!! If there's one person that serves as a legitimate comparison to Cato, it's Fredo Corleone
Detroit did ok without one. Houston's wasn't working....the best clique is one where the WHOLE team is in it. DD
