Even tho people think i hate lin, i voted lin. Asik isn't as talented. He' just tall, which got him a long way. He's not very good with coordination, can't shoot worth a flip, and he's an offensive liability. His defense makes up for all that however. He's a good threat just having him sitting down in the lane.

The premise of this post is faulty. There are only two players whose positions on this team cannot be questioned.

From there, it just depends on what you think of fit vs. talent.

Talent wise, as in if they are all FAs how much would they get on the market, I'd rank them like this.

    3. Asik
    4. Parsons
    5. Lin
    6. Jones
    7. Beverley

Importance to this team, as in who would most afffect the team should he get injured, I would rank them

    3. Parsons
    4. Beverley
    5. Jones
    6. Asik
    7. Lin

Parsons definitely is top 4. But everyone else is up for discussion.

Coming from a Lin fan, Beverley is much more important to the team than Lin. Lin's skill set overlaps with Harden and Harden is better in every way.

With that said Lin would probably start over Bev on 26 or so out of 30 teams.

I agree with this - any one of those guys could be a key to the win on any night.

uhh, being able to move your feet at his size imo means he's very talented defensively. He just has hands made of concrete

I can only think of Chris Paul, Rondo, Conley, Avery Bradley, and Tony Allen (Lowry maybe?). So you bring up a good point of good defending point guards being rare. They are certainly under-appreciated when considering talent, but the league today favors offense.

I'd agree with this assessment, in that Bev is more important to the team
    than Lin.

However, if I had to start a team from scratch and I have to start with
choosing a PG, and not knowing what other players I'd be getting in advance,
    I'd go with Lin.

The whole premise of this post is faulty because Asik to anybody who really pays attention is clearly the 4th best player on this team, and an argument can be made he's the 3rd best player.

It's astounding all we've been through and so many people still don't appreciate the value of great defensive big men. There's a reason they all make so much money despite often having zero offensive game.

Who's the 5th best player is a good question. It seems to change from week to week. Jones, Lin, Beverly and D-Mo at times have all appeared to be the 5th best.

The premise of this post is faulty but the motive is clear-

OP is trying to prove some point that only he cares about that Jones and D-Mo are garbage. He made bold claims back in October, and is still trying to prove that he was right by continuing to create baited threads and self admittingly modulates his arguments to support his theory that they need to be done away with as if they are cancer to your liver or something. (and then suggests they should acquire other PF's like Jason Smith and Derrick Williams instead).

Jones and D-Mo not being in the top 5 says nothing about Jones and D-Mo as much as it says about the strength of guys like Asik & Lin who would be key cogs on other teams that aren't as deep.

Craig Ackerman yesterday said something along the lines of since the beginning of the years Jones and D-Mo combined are averaging right below 20/10 per game. Put them together in one player, and that's near borderline all-star level production at the PF position during a full game you are getting. Those two combined the past 6 weeks have been very, very good. Lets just leave that argument for another thread.

Ranking players on this team is a faulty argument because there are different ways to rank them-

    A. Highest NBA market(or trade) value
    B. Importance to team winning in short term in team role
    C. Important to franchise building long term

Other rankings that bear less importance-

    D. Best scorer
    E. Best one-on-one player
    F. Best PER
    G. Highest W/S

If the OP wanted to make this less arbitrary, less trolling/baited, and actually have a meaningful discussion, he'd pick one of these categories to rank and discuss.

You know what I think of this thread....

Asik is at least fourth best and it's arguable he's better than Parsons, but they're games are so different its hard to compare them.

Parsons shouldn't be top 3 imo.
