Therein lies the issue: value vs "best"/talent/skill

Bev's value to this team is more than his apparent talent/skill. I'd put him right under Harden and Howard and maybe the same as Howard considering Howard's bench replacement, Asik, isn't a drop off.

If it's best/talent/skill I don't think Bev would be that high and would be in the mix for 5th.

Have to disagree. Bev's value to the Rockets is not slightly under or on par with Dwight Howard.

Remove Beverly straight up from the Rockets, and we don't have any perimeter defender close to his level yet we'd still be contenders, and still be above the Blazers / GS.

Remove Dwight from the Rockets, you have a serviceable replacement at center in Asik... And yet we'd look slightly better than how we did last year.

That's no knock on Bev, Dwight is just that much of a better player than Asik.

You have a point and I can see it that way too. Of course there's a reason why Dwight is considered an elite player while Asik isn't. My point is that Bev's value to the team is going to be ranked differently than his overall talent or "bestness".

    OP you totally lost me.

You asked who is the fifth best player in our team?

Then refuted with an argument that you want to know who is the fifth most important in our team?

How come you didn't ask that in the opening post? Instead of making a flawed statement asking for something you don't need?

Kenny, JVG, Hubie, just about every good commentator say he's a good player and is underrated...falls on deaf ears on this board though

    TheMystery008 you totally lost me.

Fifth best player on our team should not need a detailed explanation. It's pretty simple.

Beverley brings alot to us and he's in a perfect situation but as individuals he is not better than anybody in our starting 5 of last season and he's not better than TJ

Not obvious at all. I would rank Asik as "obviously" #3 and I would think that a majority would rank him #4. So I pick Beverley. But there are many quarters in which Jones is just sensational, DMo keeps getting better and better and when Lin's mindset changes back to what would seem his more natural one, he's going to be just wonderful. In fact, there isn't anybody on the team, including Howard and Garcia, that I would preclude from being near the beginning of their most natural, most powerful time of growth as an NBA player.

    Beverley is not that valueable.

If we had Jordan Farmar starting, and then have Toney Douglas spelling him for 15 minutes a game, I really don't see a drop off at all.

The whole Lin drama has over/underrated (depending on who you talk to) Lin and Bev immensely.

Bev is a good defender who bring very very little to the offensive side.

basketballholic - you not slick LOL I know where you're going with this, collecting DATA for your PF argument.

Many coaches and fans would argue, to win, a team should put their best 5 players on the floor, especially in playoffs

    In a draft (talent/skill):

    Harden
    Dwight
    Parsons
    Asik
Lin/TJones - both can double double.... inconsistently. TJones may have better handles (seriously).
Bev - D specialist with O skills on the rise

    On a team (impact/value):

    Harden
    Howard
    Asik - 24/7 rim protection
Parsons/Bev - both make teammates better, Parsons cuts and glues, Bev inspires, both quasi leaders.
TJones - not a bust. but filling out quite nicely.
Lin - should be higher as 2nd unit floor general, but he drops his gun and surrenders too often

    Harden
    Howard
Parsons( even though he is in a slump)
    Jones
Asik ( his stock is rising now that he is done throwing a pity party) he would be top 4.
    Beverley
    Lin
    DMo

So did I, but your list of the "4 best players" before getting to that mystery "5th best player" spot that we're asked to vote on is probably going to have some members disagreeing around here. Of course, you knew that before you posted it. ;-)-
