after lebron james, deron is the most impressive player so far in the playoffs. he's playing all-world basketball right now.

durant has been good, but shooting 36% isn't impressive at all (aren't there tmac haters in here? efficiency counts a lot no? lol)

but deron has been the 2nd best player in the playoffs after lebron.

I hate to say it but DW. He makes people better, plays great D, and it seems everytime he is open and shoots the ball goes in. Durant is one of the best at his position (LeBron), while DW is the BEST at his position.

I think Chris Paul is a better player than Deron. Folks have jumped off the bandwagon after his season this year, just wait...

    That doesn't say anything...

Deron is still amazing. He has limited freedom with Utah but he can do it all.

Three playoff games isn't enough to get a full read on KD. At least let's wait until the first round is over.

I disagree, the system is built around Deron getting assists. Essentially every basket is a rim cut with Deron as the passer.

The system greatly inflated Stockton's assists as well...

It's like saying Peyton Manning is a great QB because the Colts design a lot of passing plays for him.

    No, it's not.

Basketball has 5 potential passers, Football has 1...

Take Rick Adelman's Princeton, for instance.

Check out Mike Bibby's assists from the Grizz to the Kings.

Deron is a veteran, while KD is in his 1st playoffs. This gives Deron the edge right now. 2 to 3 years later,it could be a different story.

    Okay, let me try again.

It's like saying Kareem was a great scorer because they kept feeding him where he could take his skyhook.

It's like saying Hakeem was a great center because they put shooters around him to isolate him in the post.

It's like saying Jordan was a great player because the triangle offense fit his game perfectly.

It's like saying Stockton was a great passer because they ran the PnR to death with him and Malone.

A closer one: It's like saying Brooks is a great shooter because the coach gives him the green light to shoot.

The point is, if it's just the system, why couldn't the opponents stop him from doing what they knew he would be doing? And why couldn't everyone achieve the same thing in the same system?

The claim that x player is good only because of the system is looking at it backward. Basketball, more than football, is about individual talent. A system can work only if the players in it make it work. It's the players that make the system great, not the other way around. And most good coaches design, or at least modify, the system to suit the strengths of their star players.

I'm confused as to how this is a logical thread.

Deron Williams and Kevin Durant play two different positions, therefore, they are not asked to do the same thing.

A better comparison would be Williams vs Nash, or Durant vs Anthony.

Comparing Deron Williams to Kevin Durant, (and I'll use a football analogy here) is like comparing Peyton Manning to Mario Williams.

    It. just. doesn't. make. sense.

I think Durant is slightly more talented.....but like I always say:

When talent is comparable you have to go with the guy whose done it on a bigger stage.

Right now that is D. Williams (even if he is a Jazzhole)

Yea....I know I'm in the minority.

Great question, I had this argument with someone the other day. Basically you would take a great point guard over a great small forward any day.
