If we had to include the Astros in there, I'd take Steve over Jeff Bagwell. Jeff Bagwell is now just a player taking up payroll like Hakeem in his final years.
It is nearly impossible to relate two players in such vastly different professions. Its like saying who is smarter The guy who invented the Computer, or the Guy that did the first heart transplant. Ofcourse the answer would be both. Because each one did something phenomenal in their respective fields. Atleast personally I cant compare them.
What exactly has Carr done? Tony Banks has similar results and he is the backup If Moochie could run the team as well as Franchise then I'd say maybe The Franchise. . . by a mile Rocket River
Well, in Steve's defense (won't hear THAT around here these days), his team finished ABOVE .500 his second year in the league...Damn people, at least have some substance if you're going to bash Steve. He's not playing well right now, so it's not like you have to reach very far to find something to criticize him on... Now, the real question is...who's the better backup, Moochie or Dave Ragone?
I don't watch fotball that much, but I know that the texans win loss record is not that good, so i would say francis is the better franchise player, and francis is a basketball player, where there are only like 10 players per team, and fotball they got like 250 players per team, maybe more, like i said, i don't watch much fotball, but there are allways these bunch of players on the bench.
Well, we know that Francis isn't a franchise player. David Carr might still be. Hence, Carr wins by default. Man, Houston sports suck right now. Come on, baseball season... \o/
David Carr is the man. However, I see almost no chance the Texans can win the division they are in as long as Peyton Manning is playing. Steve Francis-led Rockets will never win the Midwest Division as long as Tim Duncan is playing. I'd take Mark Prior and Kerry Wood over any two pitchers the Astros have too. It's safe to say Houston sports teams have a tough road to any championships from now into the next decade.
Bah. Why include Kerry Wood in that equation? Just take Mark Prior and be done with it. Still, the Cubs are fun to root against. They waste more money than any team West of Baltimore.
Uhh... if you look at Baggy's numbers from last year, he's still probably the best 1B in the NL that doesn't play in mile-high air. You couldn't say the same about Hakeem being one of the best centers in his final years... and I don't think we should knock the Astros right now. This is about the highest they've ever been (hype/expectation wise) since the Randy Johnson trade.
What about Richie Sexson? It's amazing that we forget their September disappearing act so quick.... I am optimistic too though! Oh yea, Francis would be a francise player on all but a few NBA teams.
Man... that's it, I'm pissed. How can you even let that hot air out of your head... go see BAGWELL's stats... that's a career .300 hitter playing .994 defense for your Astros team. SHUT UP. Like HAKEEM taking up payroll?
I'm not sure either is a franchise player, but I see a lot more potential in Carr than I see in Francis.
Bagwell's career numbers are very impressive, but I think his tendency to choke under pressure will hurt his long term reputation once his career is over. I never thought I'd see a choke that could rival what the Oilers did between 1989 and 1994, but the Bagwell/Biggio Astros may have done it. I mean you can clearly see these guys go into their shells when even the slightest bit of pressure is on. So Bags will make the hall of fame and as an Astros fan I'll be pulling for him, but I sadly can not call him a great player because he doesn't perform when it counts. Bagwell is not Hakeem.
Bagwell his 39 hrs and drove in a hundred last year. If he's just "taking up payroll", then we need more players who are going to "just take up payroll"
Back to the question at hand... Stevie can be a franchise player with the right mix of players. He'd probably be like an AI, needing a bigger point guard to play alongside of. I think David Carr can be a good franchise quarterback, but there're a few things that worry me about his development. He seems to force dump passes, throws too hard in short situations, and hasn't mastered the fade pass in the end zone. Those are just a few things that worry me. He has all the intangibles down, but I wonder about his ability to be a QB on the level of McNair, Vick, or Peyton. (I voted for Steve because I was pretty sure everyone would pick DC, and I still like Steve).
Bagwell may not be Hakeem, but Stevie and Carr are no Bagwell. Bags is a guaranteed HOF'er, and was easily a top 6 1st baseman last year. Carr ranks 24th out of 32 starting QB's in QB rating, and Steve ranks 40th in PG's in assist/TO ratio, 19th in assists, 31st in scoring, and right at 100th in FG%. need I go on...
