Obviously, Ming can't dethrone SHAQ. Maybe he can dethrone the 2nd best center in the NBA? Everybody feel free to chime in and say who they think is the 2nd best center in the league is this year? Here are a couple of candidates: Marcus Camby (always injured, too brittle) Michael Olowokandi Brad Miller(avged 15pts and 8rbs with Indiana) Ben Wallace(rebounding and blocking machine!!!) Todd MacCulloch David Robinson(old and injured) Keon Clark(budding young talent, very skinny) Eddy Curry(too raw) Vlade Divac(good passing bigman/great actor) Nazr Mohammed Theo Ratliff Calvin Booth Kelvin Cato
Among true centers, no one can touch Olowokandi. He's young, averaging 11 and 9, and the only player who can consistantly hold his own versus Shaq. He may not be worth the max, but he'd be a perennial all-star in the East and the key cog for one of those teams to make a run at the NBA Championship. Most of the others are converted PFs, aging, or both.
Damn those players suck. Kandi get my vote by default I guess. Ming is gonna be a killer in a couple of years.
Dikembe Mutombo is the 2nd best defensive center. Divac is the 2nd best offensive center among the players who've played the position for 3 or more years. He's an excellent passer and can hit the midrange shot. The Kandi man sucks. I would say Zo, but he's on his way out. I seriously think the Kandi Man will plateau on his current 2nd half averages and live off a fat overpaid contract.
Very interesting. That list seems to have proven one thing: there is no good center in this league any more besides someone named Shaq. I truly believe that if we had as many good big men as we did in the late 80s, O'neal wouldn't have looked so dominant. Ming does have a good chance to be the second best center in the league in a couple of years. After all, Kandi Man is now considered by some as the second best center (and if I recall it correctly, this time a year ago, everyone thought him as a bust).
Olowokandi's a joke. He averaged 11 and 8. And he's a quality player? Anybody who spends near the max on him will regret it. He's a liability unless you're playing a team with a "good" true center... which happens to be two teams in the entire league. Otherwise, you're better off with another PF or finesse player who can shoot 3's. Duncan's a center, whatever he'd like to think. He doesn't play like a PF, and he has C size these days.
Duncan's a pf, so I'll say Vlade. Kandi has some true potential but once he gets a fat contract you'll never hear from him again.
Kelvin Cato. The man if he wanted could stop Shaq. Heck he could average 30ppg 20rpb 10bpg if he wanted.
Olawakandi:: 2nd best center with potential. Scores and rebounds well, even while playing with Brand that does the same thing. Divac :: 3rd best (Can score and pass)Getting old fast? Ming:: 4th best (Can score pass rebound and has super potential.)
Zo. I guess you could consider Duncan a center though. If D-Rob wasn't a center, then Duncan would be the 2nd best center in the game. I think he is the 2nd best player in the game also.
