Its become fairly obvious to most of us, or atleast me that the two of them have to either got to get along or get out to do whats best for the team. I was just wondering who people thought is more valuable to the Rockets, Van Gundy or Steve Francis? And I mean Francis playing at his best, not the performances we've come to expect lately? If Van Gundy has anything to do with Francis playing the way he is now, then you can only assume he will play better once Van Gundy has left? Personally I'd prefer Francis. I think as far as coaches goes anything could happen next season, who knows, Rudy could be back and ready to coach? What do you guys think?
I'd rather trade Steve than fire JVG. It remains to be seen if CD can make it beneficial to us, or if Steve can just find his spot in the syste.
Rudy T couldn't make the playoffs with Francis. Van Gundy is winning in spite of Francis having a career worst year. If that doesn't scream it's the player not the coach, I don't know what does.
SF used to play a lot of ISO and maybe was flashy and a lot of his fans liked that. But, the overall result for the team was no playoffs during those long 4 years. SF time with the Rockets is done unless he really changes the way he plays.
he also use to play with the worse starting forwards in the western conference and probably one of the weakest centers as well . . . .the result was no playoffs in 4 years people hate to admit that this is probably the most talented team we have had in 4 years Rocket River
Disagree. We were more talented last year IMO. I think Rudy would probably have us around 6 or 7 games above .500 right now, which is barely less than JVG, but late in the season, in the playoffs and in big games, he may have shown his value. We'll never know, but one thing's for sure: JVG has this team 9 games above .500, and that's better than I expected. If we finish 9 games above .500 at season's end, that's 50 wins. That's probably an unlikely result considering our harsh schedule to finish the season, but think about this: This team has played .579 ball all season. If they finish out the last 25 games with a 12-13 record, then we'll end up with 45 wins just like last season. If that gets us into the playoffs, with JVG in his first season, and Francis having one of his worst seasons, then things are looking pretty damn good for us. I still think this team will give a good push over the last 25 games and they still haven't clicked they way they should and can click. If Francis catches fire over the last 25 games, I can see us going 15-10, and finishing with 48 wins. Considering how much improved the conference ad the entire league is this season, that's a major achievment.
If a team makes the playoffs with another coach and it couldn't with the previous coach, it means it was the player's fault?
I really like them both but if one had to go, I'd rather keep JVG. Most of all, I'd like to see things click with the current roster.
I think Francis is easily the more valuable of the two. If one of the two were to be banned from the NBA forever, I would kick Van Gundy long before Francis. But, that doesn't mean that, in the normal course of NBA business, you should fire the coach rather than trade a player. Firing good coaches is bad for the culture (especially if done to accomodate a particular player) and you don't do it lightly. Plus, as has been mentioned, you can actually receive value back for a player. So, if one had to go, it'd probably be the player despite the fact that his value is greater. All that said, I think it is too presumptuous to say that Van Gundy and Francis can't get along and someone has to go. I think they do get along fine even though Francis isn't fitting right, right now. Cato was also ill-fitted a couple of seasons ago, and then he found his place last season. And Francis isn't in nearly the predicament Cato was in.
Francis is more valuable, as far as assets go. The amount the team would improve with a Francis trade is greater than what you would lose by switching coaches. Way to oversimplify, GATER.
i'm not sure what our record would be if we still had rudy but i figure it would be more or less the same. i think the real value of the coaching change will show up in the big games at the end of the year and in the playoffs. the focus on defense will keep us in many more games than a reliance on our guards to get hot.
Yao Ming by himself makes this year's team more talented. You don't even have to get into the other improvements.
I think JVG and Yao are probably the 2 people on this team who arnt going any where, every1 else is fair game to make the team better.
I don't want to see Francis go. Trading Francis will be the biggest mistake GM can make. He'll come back and bite us in the you-know-what. Give him one more season. You don't expect him to change the way he's been playing since HS do you? AT LEAST he's making an EFFORT to change. His shooting touch will come around. Rember the Lakers game, he played the same way he's been playing ALL season long. The difference? He made his shots. I don't see anyone complaining about that game. His shooting touch will come back.
Steve Francis is too good to be playing this bad naturally. There is conflict hidden in the mind of Steve. He thinks of himself as a 'Star'and a determinator of Rockets Games, all this is being taken away from him, so its very difficult for him to rationalise after being knocked off the pedestal which was built so carefully over the previous four seasons. Steve just needs to reorganise his priorities into a different order and remake himself to fit them.If he realy wants to be a Rocket next season then he will achieve before the Playoffs.
