Who are the slam dunk contenders for the 2005 all star weekend? I can't find it anywhere. Anyone know? Are they even chosen yet?

It's probably gonna be Amare, along with guys like Deshawn Stevenson, Chris Andersen, Freddie Jones and Gerald Wallace.

They are going to have 4 guys. I think Amare, Josh Smith and JR Smith have committed. And the NBA is TRYING to get LeBron. If they cant get LeBron then they have to find someone else.

Personally, while far from perfect, Amare, Josh and JR Smith are 3 guys that can really throw it down so that is a nice field right there.

I believe the reigning champ is Fred Jones.

In NBA live 2005 Chidlress won it. He was boucing the crap off the ceiling, and then doing god knows what. So I just took McGrady and dribbled around. I couldn't beat that. But I did finish 2nd in the 3 point with Korver.

I remember an earlier interview with Josh Smith (the lefty from Atlanta). He stated that he was more of a game dunker ... doesn't really have a lot of tricks. Seeing him dunk on highlights and in person dunk on Bobby Sura, he does seem to be an explosive power dunker. Considering he is also 6'9", I doubt he will be much of a competitor unless he can pick up some gimmick dunks.

Amare is going to do his between the legs dunk and more "look how high, look how hard" dunks, and since he is well-known, will get good scores. JR Smith, like Josh Smith, is relatively unknown and could impress as a wild card.

I would like to see Jason Richardson in there, but not sure if he still qualifies to participate.

I can understand if LeBron turns down the invitation again. The only dunk he showed us so far is that single-handed tomahawks jam. He knows only one dunk is not enough in the dunk contest and the possibility of losing the contest is totally unacceptable for him and NBA.

LeBron, Wade and Amare are same type of dunkers IMO, pure power but lack creativity. Their bodies are too strong to make a lot of moves in the air. Wade even mentioned it when asked why he didn't enter the contest.

But I will still be a little disappointed if he turns down the invitation. Even he isn't a great dunker IMO, he could still easily win the contest given the weak opponents and great NBA hype machine. At least Amare dares to challenge himself and will participate again this year. I admire him for that. On the other hand, LeBron is projected to be the greatest NBA player ever, which I hardly agree with, he should at least try the contest once.

Richardson was invited by the league but declined the invite, said it wasnt worth the risk of injury this year and since he has won it twice there isnt much to prove for him.

I would like to see Desmond Mason in it again though

What are you talking about? LeBron is a monster dunker. Did you see him 2 years ago in his HS dunk contest? He did a thru the leg 360 dunk!

5'9" and a 43" vertical ... hmmm, he might be able to put on a good show. Add Muhammad from G Tech, McCants, and Warrick ... that is a pretty good contest right there.

He DID NOT do a 360 between the legs dunk in the high school dunk contest. I watched it, dont make things up.

lebron has a plethora of moves, he has the tomahawk, he also has the one where he bounces it off the ground, catches it and does a tomahawk. Theres the one where he jumps from inside the FT line and does a tomahawk. He can also toss the ball in the air, catch it and do a tomahawk as well as throw it off the backboard and catch it and do a tomahawk. He can also do the tomahawk with his legs bent in various angles between 0 and 90 degrees-23, 45, 68 degree bent, you name it.

Lebron is not a flamboyant dunker…he is all power…there is no grace to his dunks….it has to be silky and powerful like Jordon … or the best dunker of all time….Vince Carter…who is both silky smooth plus powerful…creating a lethal combination.... however he still is a jacka$$.

Don't you guys think that some of these vertical leaps are exaggerated?
