Come on, you know you want him. You can only have him though if you will be good to him. I really don't like dogs myself and I'm too poor to feed myself, let alone a dog...but my friend found this thing walking down the side of I35 near Pflugerville, so we have to do something with it. It's just chilling in my backyard at the moment, and I have to work all day long so I can't come home and let it in out of the rain on days like this. She goes to school all day....it's just impractical for us to have a dog right now. It really needs a home and it's a good dog so it deserves one. A black lab looking thing, I call it Ubu after the "Sit Ubu, sit. Good dog." thing that used to come on at the end of some shows...that's what it looks like. Come on y'all, somebody PLEASE take this dog.
Dallas -- You did an admirable thing taking that lettle fella in. You may want to try putting flyers up in pet stores, vet offices, etc... Also here is a link to a list of Austin area animal shelters and animal welfare agencies who may be able to help you out: http://www.austinrescue.com/ I wish you the best of luck in finding a home for him.
Thank you sooooo much Ms JB...I'm gonna try and see what those people tell me...I should also have the inside track with the local SPCA starting tomorrow because I'm going up there to do some (volunteer) work. And cson, I'm working on that pic...my roommate has the only digital camera in this household and she's not home right now. When I get ahold of that, I'll take a pic. I would appreciate it immensely if you would do that for me (and Ubu).
DallasThomas - Make sure your roommate is in the photo of the dog so we can check them both out at once. I might take both of them off your hands. Oh never mind. The wife said no more dogs or girl friends. Go figure Those dogs like to run... I knew a girl who had one that also liked to chew. No kidding that dog ATE her appartment. Carpet, furniture, electrical cords, nothing was safe.
I like animals, but I hate those little "yip-yap" dogs. My ex had one that chewed up the power cords to my playstation at least 3 different times.
Oops! I woke up this morning and the guy had knocked out a fence board in my backyard and took off! He's running around 38th street somewhere in the Red River area now. If anybody sees him, take him up to 39th street to the house with the piece of crap Ford Tempo in the driveway
That poor dog . Hey...at least you tried which is more than most people would do. If your so inclined, then you could get in your beat up tempo and drive around for a while looking for the dog. But, then your stuck with the dog again. It's kind of a no win proposition unless you had someone lined up to take the dog in. I don't see how any stray dog could survive downtown Austin streets. You have to be a pretty lucky dog.
Man...I just found a dead cat in my front yard. My house must be a mecca for troubled animals... What the hell do you do with a dead cat that's not yours? I mean, I can bury it, but its owner would probably want to at least know that it's gone...
Did the dog get the cat??? I was taking all kids to Mr Gattis yesterday, and Tara spotted a racoon at the mouth of the sewer drain. I got within a foot of it and fed it some raisins. Cute little critter...until it topples your trash can...then it becomes a target!!!
Well what kind of dog should I get. I'll probably get one next year when I can get an apartment off campus.
You may want to get the cat tested for West Nile virus unless you know it died from something else. I don't think they have established a West Nile/cat link yet. You could be famous. If the cat doesn't have a collar/tag, then all you could probably do is ask around the neighborhood. I wouldn't want you to take a photo of the cat, make posters, and put them up around your street and adjacent streets. Imagine the cat owner's grief to see their dead cat in the photo . If you don't want to do the West Nile thing, ask around the neighborhood, and/or do the poster thing, then your left with bag it, tag it, and recycle it(ala soylent green...tis made out of kitty) or sanitization by the engineers(ala trashmen). Seriously, though, I'm sorry your having such a f-ed up time of it. Your heart is in the right place. I found a dead cat once. So, I went to my neighbor who I knew owned some cats. She came out and looked at it to see if she could make a positive ID. She couldn't but she bagged it and tagged it. Then, she must have called some city carcass collector cause some dude in a specialized truck came to her house, grabbed the bag, and put it in a special modified truck cabin where I imagine there were umpteen hundred other carcasses . I have to go back to my old saying..."if the owner is not looking out for their animals, then God probably isn't either but Death is...".
FT-No, I don't think the dog ate the cat, because the dog got out through the back yard and the cat is dead out front...and the cat has no marks on it whatsoever. It's already got the rigor mortis, so it's probably been dead all day. That would suggest it died around the same time the dog got out, but I don't think that's what happened. That is an idea there Surfguy, it seems like the cat just up and died which concerned me. West Nile might actually be a possibility. Oh well, I'll just ask around like you said and probably have to end up taking it to the carcass collector people. BTW, no luck finding the dog. I live right near 35, so he might have gone back that way which is very dangerous. Hopefully he doesn't die and someone else picks him up.
DallasThomas, You might also want to stay away from nocturnal animals that are out in the daytime. They may have rabies.
I live right around there, and I've seen a few dogs right near the freeway. Sad. I'm usually on the way to work, so I don't stop (not a good excuse, I know, someone's got to stop...I usually try to pick up the strays I find in my neighborhood though). Anyway, DT, let me know if you want to watch a Rocket game sometime since you live in Austin apparently.
Just call city hall and they'll have someone come by and take the dead cat away. That's the way it works in my town, anyway. I backed over a cat in the driveway last winter.
