I do. somteimes i just zone out, and get into this zone, i get very creative and some wildd things come out sometimes. It's very rewarding sometimes, i know it sounds stupid. but im really into art, and i usually suck at it unless i'm in my "a.d.d. zone." Then i make badass creations. Same goes for the guitar.

Somebody once told me that ADD is a mark from phrehistiroic times of man, when a.d.d. was more of a good thing. Somethig to do with being able to quickly shift attecnition to your surroundings wile hunting. COol ****.

I, honestly, think ADD is a sham unless we are talking about it being in combination with autism or r****dation - they have ADD. "Normal" people just have excuses. And drug companies have prescriptions to fill.

DO you feel this way about ADHD as well? (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

Read this article from Scientific American

    Behad,

Yes. I feel that they are both real disorders, but I also feel that many people who "have" either one don't really have them. I know a lot of kids are diagnosed with ADHD just because they are kids and hyper, etc. - put 'em on ritalin.

My problem is just with over-diagnosis and over-medication.

I can actually tell I have some sort of attention deficit though. I have incredible difficulty staying focused on one thing at a time. I also am not a moron (at least I'd like to think so) so it's not a case of being r****ded or autistic.

The latter half of this sentance contradicts the former. Please try to refrain from such insensitive comments.

Attention problems are just discipline problems - we all have them to some degree. Why do you need a label?

And it's not JUST lack of attention. Like I said before, ADD is a weird "zone" type-thing, where the concentration isn't consistent, but when the ability to focus is there, it's extreme. I guess I can't really explain it.

ADD is a lot of fun.

I have a level twelve dwarven fighter/cleric named Drongor. He has base 16 con and 17 str (20+ with his Helm of Lordly Might!).

    ADD rules.

Now what were we talking about again....?

    A couple of thoughts:

Attention Defecit Disorder diagnosed at some insanely higer rate in the US than in the rest of the world. Is this a cultural issue? A diagnosis issue? Perhaps some sort of 'New World' immigrant genetic trait?

If you give small doses of amphetamines to people who clearly don't suffer from ADD, they will exhibit the same benefits, in terms of attention span, etc.

There have been studies that show a general difference in brain architecture from a 'big picture' view, but it is not clear enough to be a diagnostic measure.

It is really dificult to diagnose what is supposedly an organic disorder based only on behavorial measures. If ADD is in fact actually present in and real in all of the people who are diagnosed, then I am of the opinion that this 'single disorder' is most likely an amalgamation of several diseases with diverse biological etymologies that are lumped together based on symptomology.

Dude. Dude? Dude. I have ADD and am very deeply offended. My dad has it and I was diagnosed with it when I was about 4 years old. (you know, before it was popular  ) Are you saying that I am just using it as an excuse?! I'll give you some slack though, it's hard to understand it when you don't have it.

Whether or not people actually have the clinical version of ADD, I think general lack of focus and concentration is epidemic in our society - caused by less discipline and over stimulation.

    That's my excuse, anyway.

    Drew,

Again, my problem is with over-diagnosis. I think that there are a lot of "normal" people who are over medicated and given labels that do not need it. I cannot speak to you or your father (so no need to get offended) but, in general, I think it is an abused and misused term that is often applied as an easy out.

Sure, my connection with only autism/r****dation was extreme, but it was an intentional rhetorical device. Oh well.
