Hell yeah! Many, many summers ago, my friend and I would hang out in my driveway working on our cars. A treasured tradition was scrounging up about $1.50 in quarters and buying 6 Dr. Thunders to go through over the course of the afternoon. Good times...
Store brand stuff definitely saves you cash. Sometimes they are up to 50% cheaper than popular brands...
This probably deserves a thread of its own, but the GREAT VALUE packets of flavored powder mix for water are much better than the Crystal Light and Kool-aid ones. It's extremely delicious to drink this. NOT this particular flavor, but:
I think HEB Creamy Creations beats any ice cream brand out there, including Blue Bell, Dreyer's or any other national brand. My personal favorite is Java Chocolate Chip.
HEB has amazing Diet Strawberry soda and the grape is pretty good too. It is near impossible to find diet strawberry and grape sodas elsewhere. I've only seen diet orange for Fanta. Wal-mart has the best knock off of Corn Chex called Toasted Corn. They are better than Corn Chex because they absorb the milk better.
I've never been a fan of store brand sodas they never quite tasted right for me, but for most other things I will go with the store brand. I don't know if Aldi is in Houston yet but there stuff is very cheap and for the most part as good as brand names.
I was a brand buyer before I got married. Now we heavily lean towards store brand. However, there are some things I won't trade. Like...toilet paper, paper towels...there are just some things meant to be bought by the brand.
I like the roasted chicken from Randalls. Also, I used to buy the store brand cheezy puffs or whatever they were called from the Dollar King on Richmond. They came in a big bag filled to the top and costs a third of what their brand counterparts cost at Walmart.
