Who would you say has the brighter future over the next 10 years? Houston Rockets- Great GM. Many young assets. Very deep. Plenty of draft Picks. Houston Texans- Talent everywhere. One of the youngest teams in the NFL. Stars of both sides of the ball. Very Young I love the Rockets so much and I love the direction the team is heading into, but I have to go with Texans, they have a plethora of world class talent. Discuss
I'd have to go with the Texans. They're young and very good at key positions. Its hard not to imagine them turning into a truly great team. Most of the pieces are there, they just have to put it together. Imagine if the young corners turn out to be good. That's scary. Unfortunately, right now only one of them seems to show it. Who knows. As for the Rockets, its tough to say. The best thing we have going for us with them is Daryl Morey, which is important, but we need a major player not just a bunch of great role players. Right now, it seems that the best chance we had was hoping for a healthy Yao-TMac combo a few years ago. I can only hope that changes. They have a good owner in place too so there is hope. Now if only Drayton would sell the 'Stros to someone worth a damn.
The stros came out of no where and could be the dark horse...... Time will tell. I dream of the day Houston hits the trifecta similar to Boston of late.
Two pretty different scenarios. The Rockets have a pretty hefty advantage in both management and coaching. The Rockets are an incredibly deep team and pretty young. The problem is that they do not have a superstar right now (unless goes back to his old self, which will not be for a while). The Texans are incredibly talented although not particularly deep. They have legitimate superstars on both sides of the ball (Andre, Cushing, Mario, Foster, Schaub). But they do still have gaping holes where the Rockets really do not. I do not trust the higher ups on the team like I do the Rockets (particularly the coach). In the end, I say it is a wash. In football, it is far easier to reach a superbowl for a single season. In the NBA, the same teams are at the top of the charts most of the time. Management/coaching is on the side of the Rockets, parity and talent is on the side of the Texans
Got to go with the Texans, all the pieces are there and they are younger then the Rox all things equal. Rox are a close second but need some of their young guys to take the next step.
The Rockets are pretty much just as young as the Texans. The only guys over 30 are Yao, Miller, and Battier
I'd say the Texans. The chances of injuries due to so many more games, lack of urgency/importance for each regular season game as opposed to the NFL, and no real superstars counts against the Rockets. That being said, if the Texans pass defense doesn't shoot up several notches higher soon, we just can't go far enough to the SB.
Texans...and I don't think it's close. I wish it were a lot closer. It's telling that when we mention our best human asset for the Rockets it's a man who wears a coat and tie to work...not a man who wears a basketball uniform.
Right now, it's the Texans. But, I would be less shocked if the Rockets won the NBA championship this year than if the Texans won the Superbowl.
you're kidding, right? surprise champs happen with frequency in the NFL, these days. how many people had the Saints among the favorites to start last season...how many people imagined the Bears would have made the Super Bowl a few seasons back? Teams go from worst to first all the time in the NFL...nearly every season. they're a complete anomaly over the entire history of the NBA. I'll do the work for you: Pistons. Now name the others.
I would not even put the Pistons on that list, they did make the ECF like the 5 previous seasons to winning the championship and then went to the finals again the next year. It is way more likely that an NFL team can some out of nowhere and win a superbowl.
i would agree. the Pistons were far better..with a more successful recent history at that time..then they are given credit for in those discussions. but they're as close as i can get. they're the team that gets brought up every time the discussion happens.
No. I believe that the Rockets, with a completely healthy Yao, are closer to a title than the Texans are. Reason being: Parity. The only team in the West I see as being legitimately no-questions-asked better than the Rockets is the Lakers, and it's not super far-fetched to think we could give them a run for their money (hell, we already did without Yao). In the NFL, seems like any team could knock off the Texans any given week. Especially in the playoffs. And that's not even touching on the team's lack of experience, which the Rockets have a gigantic lead in.
Hmmm...guess we'll agree to disagree. We don't have a completely healhty Yao...we have a guy who misses about as many games as he plays over the last 5 seasons. I dont think a completely healthy Yao exists anymore. In the Texans I see a team that could absolutely get to the playoffs...and from there, they don't need to beat better teams in 7 games series...they need to win one game at a time. I can see that happening hella easier than I can see the stars aligning for the Rockets this season...or any season until they find their player to build around. Of course..that's subject to change if the Rockets pull off a killer trade for that kind of player.
Rockets. A smart GM with an Owner who will do what it takes to win. Has proven it by making moves to win and has already won 2 titles. I knew Max would be dogging the Rockets in this thread.
I love my Rockets. Just answering the question, REEKO. Citing championships from the mid-90's is so very Dallas, though. I knew you'd be dogging the Texans, REEKO!!!!
The Texans. 7 game NBA playoff series pretty much guarantee the best teams advance and play for the championship. Anything can happen during 1 game in the NFL.
The answer is the Texans. The Rockets have better management and a better coach, but at the end of the day talent is the single most important thing for any professional sports team. And in the NBA, you need more than just good players, you need superstars. I don't believe the Rockets have that. The Texans have a lot of good players and really the only thing stopping them from being an elite team is their defense. In the NFL it's much easier to acquire players to fix positions of need than it is to acquire the superstar you need in the NBA.
