I'm thinking of using my cell as my only phone line. But, I do lose things every now and then.

Who has done it? Has it worked?

I need all my LAN lines. My network won't work without them. Damn wired ethernet. :(

    Do you mean 'land line'?

I don't think too many of us here have control of a Local Area Network and I don't think you could replace one with a cell phone.

My 2 friends that live together do it. They live at a apartment where its all bills paid, but they pay for their Roadrunner and phone line, if they want it. They both are just sticking to their cell phones for now and so far, its been good for them.

    :)

One of my former co-workers used a cell phone exclusively. The drawback is, of course, coverage. I've lived in areas where signal strength is just barely "good enough" and there'd be no way I'd trust a cell phone as my only phone.

It basically takes voice data and transmits it as IP packets. Another common term for it is "Voice over IP". If you have an instant messenger, many of them include a feature where you can talk into a microphone via the messenger and communicate with others around the world. This is basically the same principle.
